What's new

What's the most soothing after shave balm?

"You put the balm on? Who told you to put the balm on? I didn't tell you to put the balm on. Why'd you put the balm on? You haven't even been to see the doctor. If you're gonna put a balm on, let a doctor put a balm on."

A thousand thanks for providing a morning chuckle! It's absolutely dreary in CT today, but Jackie Chiles has saved the day!

Soothing is a specific quality, and usually involves an aloe base.

Olivias, Nancy Boy, Baxter, and Ginger's Garden. I use these when I have hacked my face trying a new blade or style. These put the flames out and tighten the face nicely.

Castle Forbes lavender is not as strong in aloe, but is one of my favorites in the soothing department.

Harris Pink is a splash, but I use it to sooth in the summer when I don't feel like a balm.

I've been using L'Occitane shaving balm. The only weird part of using the balm is telling your friends you use L'Occitane stuff.

+1 on the L'Occitane.

The only one I like better is Pre de Provence Baume Apres Rasage.

Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Moisture Treatment for Men is really great as well.

I like to rotate between the three of these.

in all honesty, you cannot beat a leaf of aloe vera, split open and rubbed on the face....SO cooling and soothing...nothing beats nature itself

I have been using Nivea for years with great success. Feather's Kanwa ASB is also very good. I just tried the L'Occitane this week and was very impressed. The Trumpers skin foods are excellent too. About the only thing that hasn't been soothing has been plain water.

Welcome to B&B, great to have you here

Proraso is an awesome aftershave balm. I would say its light scented if any & wont clash with your EDT. Its very good at eliminating red irritation & is very soothing. It dries down nice & is very moisturising. Your skin feels great afterwards. :thumbup1:

What more could you want from an aftershave balm?

+1 on the Proraso Balm. The Pre De Provence aftershave balm with Shea Butter is also very soothing.

+1 for the Hydrolast. One of the tops.
I also really like Musgo Real ASB. Just a dab will do ya and it helps if your face is still wet.

For whatever reason I find Proraso ASB a little drying. I'll use it tomorrow since it's on my mind.

One forgotten and performs wonders: the IK ASB.

Proraso is fine too but in my hands the bottle don't last...

I've used the Proraso balm, the (discontinued now I think) BRUT balm and Nivea but the best I've ever used is The Shave Den's in house A/S milk. Not too light, not too thick. Great moisturizing and healing properties. You can get it in any scent you want. I opted for the unscented. Great stuff. I use it daily.

No pic, but I can guess who it was. Thanks for that:biggrin:
