what's the correct glycerin to use for aftershaves?

wsince it's only used for aa few drops at a time and there's different types, what's the cheapest correct type of glycerin to use?

I have no idea if it’s the ‘correct‘ one to use but, I use vegetable based glycerin from walmart.
The only aftershaves I use it in is clubman lime sec.

NOT Nitroglycerin! (kidding), Any glycerol/glycerin from a pharmacy/supermarket will do the trick. Just make sure that there are no other ingredients and that it is safe to use externally on the label. You don't need to buy a huge jug. Probably wouldn't cost more than $5 AUD here.

Just the vegetable glycerin usually sold in small bottles at pharmacies or in the cosmetic aisle. I've been using the NOW brand, that works very well.

Thank you guys found an 8 oz. bottle (yes way overkill) that's USP grade for $7 or a bottle USP grade 3 oz. for $6

I did buy 32 ounces of Medical Grade vegetable glycerin on Amazon for $13 and change back in early 2022.... I tried making my own pre-shave. That was a complete disaster.... but I have lots of glycerin left over. <eg>

Unless you get to use it for another application, get the smallest bottle you can because it does have an expiration date.

I have the Equate brand from Walmart, seems to do what I bought it for just fine. Sold in the pharmacy area where anyone can go and just pick up a bottle. I begin with one drop for fluid ounce of aftershave, if that isn't enough I add another drop, your skin will tell you how much is enough. As other members have said, a little 3 ounce bottle will last a long time. I also add a few drops to liquid hand soap, and body washes, and those skin products moisturize my skin better after adding the glycerin.

What they say (cosmetics) is to have liquid (viscous) glycerin 1% to 5% of total product (aftershave), and too much glycerin is counter effective as it draw moisture from the skin instead of moisturizing.
1ml glycerin is 30 drops, or 1% glycerin for 100ml aftershave.
I used 2% glycerin (6 drops for 10ml) and it worked fine.

Add slowly and test at least two shaves worth before adding more. It is very unpleasant if one adds too much.

Know that eye dropper type/size and temperature affects drop size, so go slow.
