What soap/cream + brush you cannot go wrong with?

Edwin Jagger best badger medium (38.00 shipped from English shaving co to Texas)
Proraso. I keep trying other things because I like variety, but this stuff just provides wonderful lather every time without even trying.

+1 I have a Shavemac, and a B & B LE 2009, and other more expensive creams and soaps, but I still use the BBB and Proraso. ( I have the Crabtree and Evelyn version which came with a stand for around $40)

The Frank Shaving brush in finest is the best value out there hands down. Soap....Palmolive, Arko, and of course VDH. Creams.......Omega since you mentioned Proraso(same stuff but cheaper), and Arko SC's. All are great values and a very nice quality.

Wow, I just googled Frank Shaving Brush and just saw the pricing

Thanks for mentioning, otherwise I wouldn't have known.

After the responses in this thread I'm probably going to pick up an Omega/Frank brush and a tub of Omega or Proraso. I should've bought this stuff when I started :p

Hello all, it's nearly been a year since I started DE shaving, (whoa, already?!) and I have a confession: I've never had a really good experience with any brush. My first brush was a VDH which was average, then I got this scritchy, Pure badger from Vulfix. The VDH is alright and I've stopped using the Vulfix. I want to use a brush, but I've been discouraged by the high prices and all the different choices. Same goes with a cream/soap as well, but I think I might try Proraso.

What is a combination of cream/brush you simply cannot go wrong with? It would help a lot if it doesn't turn out to be costly. I have no preference over cream/soap or grade of hair.

What do you gents suggest?

The brush can make or break your shave. I have always been partial towards badger...silvertip, specifically (or Super badger at the very least). More specifically, I really LOVE the Shavemacs...the quality of this brush is unreal.

I don;t know what you would consider pricey. For me, $130 or so is very reasonable for a brush. You can get fabulous silvertip Shavemacs from $80-$130 (in the reasonable range). These brushes have amazingly soft tips with good backbone (not at all floppy, like the Vulfix Supe badger I have)

Once you get a good brush, any soap and creme should work fine...you can even combine them to get super- or uber-lather. MWF, Cella, Mama Bear's, Al raz, CarrieM (SRP), Trumper's, TOBS, AOS, etc...all give me very good results. I yet have to have a creme/soap fail in my hands.

I picked up a Penworks brush during Tony's summer sale and consider it to be a great purchase. I normally use it with Bigelow (Proraso).

If you would like to have a luxurious sunday shave, best combo is Kent BK8 and Acqua di Parma shave cream. It is such a delightful and smooth shave, you would feel like a king. :001_rolle

Thanks,

I agreed 100% with BladeRunner001 except my choice in a brush would be Savile Row in silvertip from Charles at QED. About the same price range as the Shavemacs.
