All mixed up for me.

As far as luxury is concerned are we basing it on $ value or a product's performance relative to the performance of others e.g. shavemac v simpsons?

My regular rotation includes a couple of new Merkurs, and a couple of vintage Gillettes. I've narrowed it down to the 5 or 6 favorites, but of those 5 or 6, I like 'em all!

So far I have in Gillettes a slim, fatboy, long handle super adjustable, black handle superspeed, long handle superspeed. And in Merkur a 23C, HD and Progress. In the Gillettes I like everything but the SS's. Like all the Merkurs.

For me, it varies from category to category.

Razors: While I own a couple of expensive Merkur adjustables, I strongly prefer my Injectors, and am currently using a "type I1" and a Schick 500 as my "rotation" ("switch" would make more sense).

Brushes: Yes, I own a Shavemac silvertip, but only because I could get it at half price. I have a hard time spending more than $50 or so on a brush. My Kent BK4 gets the most use.

Soaps and Creams: I run the gamut, from Wars to Penhaligon's. Most of my stuff is mid-range, though I do have some AoS soaps and CF creams.

Aftershaves: Again, I run the gamut, from Ivory Club Poor Homme* to Penhaligon's Castile. Most of what I have falls in the middle, though.

*Misspelled on purpose. No, really!

All mixed up here!

See, the Merkurs are new while the Gillettes are vintage, some are cheap/plastic, some are rare/deluxe or golden editions.
Same for the brushes, it ranges from budget pure badger to luxurious silvertip...

It's not that I don't know what to choose: I WANT to keep it that way since this is what works for me and I feel fine with it.:001_smile

I have a 1930 Brass Gillette and a Chrome Gillette Adjustable that I have not looked up yet.

I paid 50 Cents for the 1930 back in the 1980's and $10.00 for the Adjustable at a local antique store.

My smell goods come from Avon, Sallys and Dollar General.
