What's new

What if . . . ?

Gentlemen,

I know, in light of the world's pressing issues, my question is trivial, but this afternoon is a bust: the chapter in the novel is going nowhere, and rather than force the writing, I'll hang it up for the day and feel miserable.

So before I put on a samovar of tea and fade away with Turner Classic Movies, I'll throw you my question and have you share my feeling of being useless.

Question: If you were shipwrecked, what wet shaving products would you prefer to have with you? I know many people would not give a hoot about shaving if they were shipwrecked. I would. At least as long as the products last. I know by then I will be rescued by a yacht packed with lovely maidens.

The focus is on wet shaving, and only one example of a product:

Double edge safety razor (only), one or two packs totaling 10 blades, shaving brush, shaving soap or cream, aftershave balm, aftershave lotion or cologne. The question centers on your preference at this moment, the moment you read this, not tomorrow or another day, when you might change your choices. But now.

There are no winners or losers. Nor is this a survey. As I said, the afternoon is a bust for me, so I might as well share it with fellow gentlemen at B&B who might feel the same. So here is my choice — for this moment:

Razor: Edwin Jagger 89L
Blade: Feather
Brush: Edwin Jagger super badger, medium
Shave cream: Trumper's Rose
Balm: Trumper's Coral skin food
Aftershave: Trumper's Spanish Leather

Have I missed something? At this moment I can't think of anything else in the shave world. On the other hand, let's concentrate on the essentials. Thanks for reading.

Regards,

Obelit

Razor: Merkur HD
Blades: Iridium Super
Cream: Proraso
Brush: my no-name badger
Balm: Nivea Sensitive
A/S: Maybe Skin Bracer, if I'm alone. If I'm with other survivors, then Trumper's Lime.

This is actually my summer setup.

Mhh, straight razors are discriminated against  On an island far away there's hopefully much sun so my aftershave would be the sea.

Gentlemen,

Although I still use straight razors myself, as well as double edge, of course, the only reason I excluded the straights is because our ranks are relatively small.

So straight razor users, I beg your forgiveness, as well as my own.

Regards,

Obelit

Razor: Gillette President
Blade: Feather
Brush: Rooney 3/1 Super
Shave soap: Irisch Moos
Balm: T&H 1805 (if you're already shipwrecked, may as well smell like a sailor)
Aftershave: Aqua Velva Ice Blue

1950 Aristocrat
Swedish Gillette Blades (but not just two packs if I'm stranded - the idea of running out makes my blood run cold)
Rooney 3,1 brush
Soap: D.R. Harris Arlington for today only
Any balm/moisturizer with SPF 50

Merkur Futur
Red Personna Blades
Tweezerman Brush
Nomad Cream or Taylors Eton College / Tabac soap
C.O. Bigelow Red Aftershave balm

Right now,

Proraso pre shave cream
Aristocrat Jnr
Gillete Platinum Blades (aka Swedes)
Dr Harris Marlborough Soap
SR 3824 brush
T&H 1805 Cologne
And an alum block assuming the salt water from the shipwrecking did not melt it.

Well there is really only one answer for a razor -- it must be a straight with a set of hones and a strop to go with it. There is no other way to be self sufficient for an indefinite time, assuming indefinite is a single lifetime.

Everything else can be improvised or ignored.

EDIT: Ah -- I missed the assumption about the rescue! In that case I'd still go with the above but in addition reserve some decent soap (MWF? Tabac?) and a brush for the last day so I could make a good impression on the lovely maidens!

B&B Le Grelot
C.O. Bigelow.
My thuringan (can shave straight off it if need be)
Pinaud Bay Rum AS.(Might as well enjoy the piratey experience)

I would probably start growing a beard, as protection against the sun, but if I were going to shave:

Razor: Brit. Gillette NEW
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock SharpEdge (yellow)
Brush: Dovo silvertip travel brush
Shave soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Balm: I do not use balms, but probably Proraso to use on sunburn and smaller cuts
Aftershave: Shulton formula Old Spice. Seriously gentlemen; what else to wear on a deserted island? Though I probably wouldnt use it much, as it would alert any animal of my presence while hunting for food.

Regards.
