What did you use today? +Rate the shave 1-10 (10 best)

Very early morning shave midnight-1am couldn’t sleep…had a great shave though and took my sweet time. No nicks weepers or irritation zero alum feedback. DFS+which is what I was going for. 9/10
Love the new Rudy Vey brush and tried the 7’oclock yellow I got in a PIF sample; very nice blade, not as sharp or smooth as the Nacet or GSB but reminded me of an Astra personally. Will shave with it again tonight.
I wish Proraso would come out with a limes shaving cream, I really like the aftershave balm and EDC.

Helicopter is that folding head plastic Lord mild...ish with not huge amount of bite?

I'm looking for a lightweight plastic mild one for my Brother to try and wean him off cartridges and plastic fantastic disposables that he uses with a lot of downforce pressure lol.

I got him a Chinese clone of a Merkur Futur and it was miles too heavy for him at about 100 grams - I'm looking for ones about 20-35 grams but they're hard to find in England.

Thanks in advance for your consideration and I love your posts and the huge variety of your razors - I like a good mixture of scrapers myself lol.

I love combi OC/CC and DOC - SLOC heads and heads with bite the most.

10/10

Post-workout, pre-shower shave. Wonderful face lather with the uplifting Proraso Green. One pass WTG for an easy CCS. Bic blades seem to have no problem going the distance in this mild razor. I applied the Cella XXB splash while cleaning up before the shower. I like it, but it's just too strong and lingering, but it was a refreshing scent for a few minutes before washing it off. After exceeding my goal for this shave, and enjoying it quite thoroughly, I have no choice but to rate it 10/10.

Today's shave:
Razor:
Weishi 9306 Long Handle
Blade: Dorco Stainless STP301 (shave #9)
Brush: Razorock Big Bruce 26mm Plissoft
Soap: Proraso Red
Result: Very Good 9.5/10 BBS shave

Decided to dig out my tub of Proraso Red soft Italian shaving soap. This tub is over four years old with the product still in great shape. Rather than loading my brush directly from the tub, as I've done in the past, I scooped out what I needed, pressed it into my 4" stainless shaving bowl and loaded until all the soap was on the brush. Built most of the lather by face lathering.

When scooping the soap I noticed that the product was much softer than my TFS based Razorock soft Italian shaving soaps. In fact it was as soft as a couple of my shaving creams so I scooped about 50% more soap than my typical almond sized portion.

Otherwise this was a typical shave that started with a face wash. As usual the Prorasso easily bloomed into a nice creamy lather with the repeated addition of small amounts of water while face lathering. By scooping plenty of product the lather was creamier than what I've realized by just loading from the tub. Enjoyed the sandalwood scent that still comes through nicely from the lather and is even detectable post-shave.

I proceeded with a typical 2+ pass shave with a BBS result. Similar to prior Prorasso shaves the lather delivered slickness, that while good, was not at the level of most of my other shaving soaps and creams. No weepers (hence the high but not perfect 9.5 rating) but I could feel the difference during the shave and confirmed it was the lather slickness, and not a worn blade, by testing the residual slickness left behind. While my hard soaps work best when developed into wetter slicker lather, my creams deliver better performance when plenty of product is used for a more creamy consistency.

One objective of this shave was to see if Proraso worked best if treated like one of my creams. Since performance was similar to my earlier Proraso shaves I'll likely continue to occasionally use this tub to superlather other soaps as I have in the past for individual shaves or as part of my custom blends.

Pre: hot shower with Stirling - Sharp Dress Man Bath Soap
Razor: Merkur - 34c
Blade: Astra platinum (4)
Bowl: Phoenix Shaving - Spacescape Scuttle
Brush: 24mm Yaqi - Mysterious Space Silvertip Badger
Soap: Stirling - Sharp Dressed Man
Post Splash: Stirling - Sharp Dressed Man Aftershave Splash
Post Balm: Stirling - Sharp Dressed Man Post Shave Balm
Scent: Stirling - Sharp Dressed Man EDT
Rating: 8/10

Same shave as yesterday. I can’t seem to get a thick lather with the Stirling soap. I either don’t get enough lather, or a get a thin foam. Any aggressions?View attachment 2013304
How do you load your Stirling soap? If loading directly onto the brush try scooping what you need instead and pressing it into your scuttle as you may not be picking up enough product. Same thing happened to me with my soft Italian soaps. Found scooping enough product into my stainless bowl and lathering there solved the problem.

Used Stirling for the first time a few months ago with this bowl method with good results (link to my write-up on that shave below). Better results when I scooped even more soap for a subsequent shave. It's a very soft soap that requires use of a lot of product to get the lather I prefer.

Sunday midday shave (rated 9.75/10) using:
  • Razor: Merkur 34C
  • Blade: KAI (3)
  • Brush: Razorock Beehive (wonderful)
  • Pre-shave: Stirling Lemon Chill preshave soap plus Noxzema
  • Soap: Barrister & Mann Seville
  • Post shave: Thayer’s Coconut Witch Hazel followed by Stirling Sandalwood splash and Stirling Glacial unscented balm
View attachment 2013354Really excellent shave with a one-point deduction on the efficiency scale due to the amount of work needed to attain a BBS finish. Everything else about the shave was superb. In my book, the KAI with its slightly oversized width between the edges is a perfect match for the 34C, which boasts a slightly negative blade exposure with a blade having a "normal" edge-to-edge width.

My shave scoring log is found HERE.

Happy shaves everyone :badger:
Funny, sometimes when we see ratings to two decimal places I wonder how one could be so precise given how subjective shave evaluations can be. In your case I'm really impressed with your scoring methodology, using an average of the multiple criteria in your shave scoring log, that is a well though out and legitimate method for going out a couple decimal points. The log is a great read that I recommend others here scan through as it's really nicely done and well written.

Thank you for sharing this with everyone!

it happens with certain blades for me no pressure needed. Astra SP, rex platinum, sometimes lord always on my chin usually. but they usually arent deal breaking weepers.
Sorry to hear that, YMMV. Recommend on a different thread that you post all the details of your technique and equipment used to see if we can provide suggestions to minimize this. Ideally weepers should be an occasional hazard and not a regular toll for the road.

Razor: Merkur Progress (S. 3.5)
Blade: Gillette Platinum RU
Brush: Yaqi Synthetic
Soap: Arko
After: Skin Bracer
Rating: 10/10
Notes: Another perfect shave with my Merkur Progress. 3 pass BBS, no cuts or irritation. I will state it, this is my favorite new made adjustable DE razor. Only my Gillette toggle beats it in the smoothness of the shave.

I use a 72% minimum Olive oil hygroscopic humectant (absorbs water out of the air because of the super fatted glycerine and Omega 3 and 6 veg oils) traditional soap that turns my face into a moisturised skating rink - then the blade just glides - it hardly digs in or catches and nicks unless my angle is well off or I use too much pressure.
