B&B's Man in Italy
SOTD: 12/14/2024

Razor: Muhle R41 GS
Blade: Wizamet Super Iridium, 1st use
Brush: Wald A1
Bowl: Cayuen Dark Nebula Bowl
Soap: Martin de Candre Fougere
Balm: Stirling Unscented
Additional Care: Thayers Witch Hazel (Unscented)

Early wake up so did a night shave. Sometimes you just want to dance with the devil and tonight it was the R41. That deep blade feel is like scratching an itch. I went slow and mindfully and there were zero weepers or nicks. MdC Fougere is fast becoming one of my favorite scents, and if course it lathers like no other. BBS-

Wishing you a restful Sunday.

I currently own Martin de Candre Original, Rose and Vetiver. Fougere is going to be my 4th MdC for sure as soon as it comes back in stock from my trusted on-line store.

1) Germany: Brush Vintage Muhle Erzeugnisse Shaving Brush.
2) Italy: Shaving Soap Palmolive shave stick.
3) England: Razor Gillette Four Piece travel Tech.
4) Israel: Razor Blade Personna Blue.
5) Italy: Alum Block Proraso.
6) Germany: Aftershave Balm Nivea Men Replenishing Post Shave Balm.
7) USA: EDT Pierre Cardin Bleu Marine.

I had a pretty good shave this morning. The Personna Blue got me my usual seven shaves per blade but it is pretty much done. I only had a little sting when I used my Alum Block and I had no irritation or weepers. I could feel some stubble/whiskers on my cheeks when I touched them where during the week I couldn’t. I would still rate the shave as an 8.5/10.

Lupo .58 loaded with a Wilkerson sword German blade, soap A&e (first base and imo the best base he made) asian pare, brush shave Mac in Rudy Vey handle. All i all a great shave i rate everything 9 out of 10, except for the blade, not sharp enough for me i rate it a 6. And me and my technique 😂 i rate about a 5 or 6 still learning to use a De, but i am getting stellar results...

First shave with Rex Envoy.
Looking at the specifications, I expected an average efficiency. But, assuming that GC .84 is a starting point of average aggressiveness and efficiency, I think Envoy is more efficient, but also with more blade feel. The blade is felt, but not harsh, on the contrary, a pleasant feeling, just enough to orient me to what I am doing. I would rather compare Rex Envoy to Muhle Rocca, although the feeling is a little different. Envoy seems more agile and easy to use, probably because of its dimensions. It will hardly be a surprise if I say that it shaves smoothly in the direction of the hair WTG, almost all razors do this, the pleasant surprise is that the same happens with ATG. Next time, I will try with a different blade to see if the efficiency decreases.
I am familiar with the other products.
Great, intense and lasting aroma of the soap and balm, with clearly emphasized tobacco notes - Tobacco Vanilla by Tom Ford.

It turned out a pleasant shave in three passes, one in the direction of the hair - WTG and two against ATG. The end result, an easy BBS, without unnecessary strain.

I believe that after a few shaves, I will be able to give a full 10, but for the first shave, the rating is: 9.5

A bright Sunday morning.

PAL safety razor + Astra Stainless blade
Omega 10049 boar brush
Fredricsson's Kaffir Lime & Juniper soap
1980s Yardley Black Label aftershave

The European equivalent of the Star 100, and a nice alternative to a Tech or similar. Seems milder with the Stainless than it did on on Astra Platinum, but that might just be my imagination or a trick of the lather.

Not an obvious mix of brush / soap / aftershave - the Fredricsson's seems to prefer badger or synth brushes - but it all worked out nicely enough.

I'll say a "9" today.

SECONDS OUT SHAVE

Three Days Whiskers

MUSIC: Seconds Out by Genesis, 1977.

A grand live album. Surely one of the biggest. The last live recording of Steve Hackett within the band. First Gabriel then Hackett left Genesis. Definitely the end of an era.

PRE-SHAVE:

- Hot Shower

- Proraso Pre-Shave Cream Cypress and Vetyver (IT)

BOWL: Costa Nova Fine Stoneware (PT)

SOAP: Mitchell's Wool Fat (GB)

BRUSH: Progress Vulfix V2236S Super Badger 26×57 mm (GB) -

The old brand that owns Simpson surely knows two or three tricks about brushes.
This one is simply wonderful.

SR: Atelier Durdan Le Maurice Dual Head 1.6 mm (FR) -

This artesanal beautiful SR with a big blade gap, but with minimal blade exposure, is both smooth and efficient.
Some degree of availability of personalization given by its maker turns these tools into very desirable collectible items. The Devil is in the details.
The dual head together with its geometry opens a series of combinations to explore.

BLADE: Elios Platinum Swedish Steel (EGYPT) (1) -

Quite a good blade.

POST-SHAVE:

- 444 Alum-Block (PT):

Mild to medium feedback over the first couple of minutes.

- Aqua Velva After Shave (US)

- Floïd Aftershave Balm Citrus Spectre (IT)

THE SHAVE

A Wonderful 10/10.
Two passes would certainly suffice, yet I went for a third one and some XTG blade-buffing on Neck.

I'm very happy with my Envoy. I'm glad I purchased it.

Thanks to the enablers here who pushed me over the edge. :):thumbup1:

What do you get when you take (arguably) my best vintage Super Speed, one of my favorite blades, and an excellent shave soap and you put 'em all together??
Major neck irritation. :yikes:
Not sure what happened but I think perhaps I didn't tighten the butterfly doors tight enough and when I was going against the grain under my goatee, I got a weeper and a lot of discomfort.
A huge rarity, obviously.
Well, tomorrow's another day. Onward and upward!
