What's new

What Are You Reading?

I picked up this novel (English title: Station Eleven) by chance in a German public library. It's not exactly the type of book which I normally read, but I'm not too old to try something new. I'm going to finish it today, and, I must say, it held my interest all the way through.

I've read this, as well as 2 other of her works. I've really enjoyed them, and glad you are as well.

Still working on Why Nothing Works by Marc Dunkelman. Pretty good discussions of the courts and politics over the past century or so as to things like zoning. Kind of repetitious. I would like to read some kind of counterpoint. I am just not convinced that zoning is such a bad thing. I like it for my neighborhood! I think in part that these guys and Appelbaum in Stuck are complaining that decisions made by boards and agencies are often political. I think that may be true no matter what. I do think the process should be relatively transparent. I do not see that addressed much in these books.

Waiting for Abundance by Klein and Thompson to come out on Audible.

Just started "The Women" by Kristin Hannah, a novel about a woman (and women) serving as nurses during the Vietnam War, and their struggles when returning home. Like all of Hannah's novels, this one is gritty and realistic. I would like to see more character development in this one, though. The characters, while mostly fleshed out, are a bit shallow.

This one lived up to the hype. My only real complaint is that it was over too soon.
