This is the only picture I discovered of a complete label after posting. After seeing this I agree early 20th century

Oh it’s just lovely innit!

Pike’s brief foray into this beautiful Art Deco label design isn’t much commented upon nowadays, if it’s remembered at all. But that same brevity is what makes this a must have for any true collector or aficionado of early c.20th American natural sharpening stones. Even though the label on yours isn’t perfect Tim; in the right auction (or if you dangled it for a while in front of @David ‘s Pike-Norton shrine thing wot he built) I could see your Washita selling for a significant amount of green.

(Have I been watching too much Antiques Roadshow…?)

Caught me sleeping so bad I didn't even find the post about it until 2 months later.

I still check eBay pretty regularly... but it's usually just 3-4 minutes skimming the newest listings and then I move on. Haven't found anything other than Obvious stuff that sells for hundreds more than I want to pay in months.

My last score I think was that Norton Trihone with the ark. Before that a couple 5 and 6 inch thuris...

Seen a couple 8" y/g or two tone thuris and other choice stuff like that... but Im no longer the second place bid when I lose... Now I'm $100-200 under it. Either I'm getting cheaper or others are getting more spendy.

Washita's? Only things that have tempted me lately are a couple <150$ WWD's and soft LWWs... but I've resisted and left them for others. I vaguely remember seeing a RRW a few months back unless I dreamed it, but I think it was listed correctly and I didn't even watch it to see where it ended... knew it was gonna be crazy.

What's the Mechanics friend say in the top left of label?

I always thought WWD were LWW/RRW, Carpenter's Choice (or whatever that one is called) were #1 and Mechanics Friend were #2... but maybe I got the latter 2 flipped?

I will say this... I've only ever owned one CC (label basically destroyed but just enough to ID) and no Mechanics friends... so lower grade or not... just from a coolness/rarity factor... one with a good label is a score.

I've got a couple unlabeled Washita with that almost chalky softness you describe. I LOVE the feel of em. Edge isn't the most refined... but still great stones... especially if you plan to go to a followup/polishing stone after.

Those chalky ones can remove chips in carbon steel in short order.
