W&B FBU scales template

Hi,

First post but Iv been looking for sometime now. I was able to grab a lot of knowledge for you guys and thanks for that!

I would like to know if anybody has some sort of digital template that a could print for the typical scales for a Wade & Butcher FBU (The celebrated version). ??? The one with the square end...

I look around and I didn't find anything other than a PDF document with mostly French razor scales printout...

Let me know if you have anything...

Regards
Francis

I had found a document I believe on here when I first started with all sorts of scale templates. It was like 10 pages or something. If I remember right I searched google for razor scale templates. I dont know if that one is in that but it has a ton of templates.

Guys, would you use the same shape on the Hollow Ground One?

I keep a single from a pair where one broke in iny magic box of tricks.
I have the templates mentioned above on my website. TBH I do not recall if that one is in the tamples....I am pretty sure there is one that is close enough. Having rescaled many of them, they are not all exactly the same so close-enough is good enough for gov't work.

Lot of templates online.

Pick one you like and lay the razor on the template to see how it fits. How deep the razor sits in the scales is determined by how thick your wedge is.

Place the razor on the template where you want it to sit on the scale and mark the top of the top of the scale on the razor toe with a sharpie.

Measure the thickness of the tip at the sharpie mark, then make your wedge that thickness on the thick end of the wedge.

I do all my scale design work on paper, and often make a posterboard template of the scales and attach to the razor with adjustment bolts to see exactly how they will fit and more importantly look on the razor, especially when using hard to find or figured materials where I want to showcase the figure.

I use the template as a starting point and modify the shape until it looks right. I also cut the scales a bit larger and adjust the shape until it looks and fits right on the razor.

Drill your holes while the scale material is flat and use adjusting bolts to test as you are grinding to shape.

There is an excellent old post on making scales from horn by KarleJ if you search (How to make a traditional set of horn scales ... the way I do it).

Horn is an excellent scale material, and super easy to shape and finish.
