What's new

Van Der Hagen Badger

It must be a pretty long beta test, seeing as how I've had mine for about three years.

Actually what happened is that I called them a few years back to find out if they had a catalog or anything. That's when I asked them about the possibility of them manufacturing a badger brush and they informed me that they did have one, they just didn't market it to stores. IIRC they were contracted by another company to make a badger brush for them that the other company would re-brand as their own, and that company went under, leaving VDH with a number of brushes they had no plans to distribute. They sent me one along with an invoice for 21.00, and I've been happy ever since.

You would be surprised what some of the "smaller" companies will offer you if you take enough time to call them.

This is getting quite exiting.

If no is able to post pics. can anyone describe the brush?

Regards.

Speaking of marketing strategies ... has anyone seen the VdH brushes and bowls in a dark blue navy color rather than their traditional green? What's up with that?

I saw these at Walmart. Both the 3-piece bowl sets and the individual brushes are now navy blue, although they still come in the same green boxes.

I haven't seen it yet, but what is the bowel made from? Is it something unbreakable that might work well for traveling?

Here is a picture of mine, sitting next to my Tan Tip Super Speed razor:

Ok, that didn't work either. Anyone got a pic of the Blue Bowel?

This is getting pretty funny. Perhaps the VDH Badger is a vampire that can't be photographed.

At the price point, I'd say they are probably Chinese brushes like the Delong.

That's not a bad thing, but it'd be interesting to see if they specified some spiffy handle.

They are indeed made in China. A sticker on bottom says so. The handle is apprx 57mm, and the loft on mine is about 61-63mm. The handle is a fairly solid wooden job. Not a bad little brush. Maybe a bit scratchy for sensitive skin. I like mine.

Excellent! Thanks Ohio. The first pic is the badger in my hand. The next is the VDH ugly green boar, and my Omega 10065 boar for comparison. Lastly is my Double Ring and Fat Boy for some more scale.

The uh, black "tint" on my hand is from cleaning my guns. I couldn't get all the residue off in one pass, and didn't feel like scrubbing just yet.

Got mine yesterday and used it this morning. Hard to make a final decision after one use, but so far-so good. The brush is fairly soft, made a good lather (used VDH Deluxe) with enough for 3 passes with no problem. It is a little soft and floppy but still worked well this morning.

Plan to use it all week and will report back later.

My VDH badger just came in. I'm going to spend some time comparing it to the Tweezerman this weekend. Maybe I'll do a video of the great cheap brush shoot-out
