Using coticule slurry stone as tomo?

Just curious....I'm exploring the wonderful world of jnats trying to decide if it's worth venturing further down the rabbit hole. Question arose-
any reason why one could not use a coticule stone as a tomo? Or even something like an Arkansas or Slate of some sort?

I have plans to use this only as a finisher. But the experiment aspect is fun indeed.
So far it's done a decent job for sure with using an old DMT plate and a couple mystery tomos.

You can try it. Some guys experiment with all sorts of weird slurry/stone combos.

In general it might work... but no one has to my knowledge found anything new that's good enough to stick with or recommend. But if you try it and it works, no one will tell you not to do it because its not typical. Find what works.

I have not tested it extensively but had the following experiences.

Jnats on my hard coticule - works but didn't really add to the coticule edge. Botan did help speed up a progression on coticule for me though.

Coticule on jnat - with the right slurry stone can work. For me though I didn't find the edge to be worth the mix matching vs a normal tomo.

Thuringian on jnat - this slurry actually felt really nice. Have not actually shave tested this but messed around with it one day when bored. I could see potential here for final finishing. Though I don't think it would replace a good tomo, I think this would be the best alternative.

I wonder what you would get for slurry, probably depends on the hardeness of the Jnat. A very hard one might pull some garnets out of the coti, and then you would have coarse non-crushing slurry (as in it won't break down). Same as honing on a coti with slurry.

If the Jnat is softer, you might just get slurry of the Jnat similar to fine diamond plate slurry.

No reason not to try anyway. Just remember that garnets aren't going to crush and reduce in size, so if they are present you can't "work the slurry" like using a tomo, or coarser nagura.

Both of my Jnats are very hard (bought for razors). Just for giggles I might try a coti on one and see what the bevel looks like when I find time.
