What's new

Use or stash? Fatboy.

Please use it. If you haven't experienced a Fatboy shave, you should. I occasionally use my fathers 58 Gillette Executive and its a great way to honor/remember the man. The beauty of owning/using a vintage razor is the connection to a time or event or person that it represents.

I recently (December 7th) used a 1941 Ranger Tech which is linked to the start of WWII in 1941.
All I use are vintage razors and I always feel they connect me with something bigger than myself.

This one came out of my birth fathers estate.

Was marked as a 59, but checked the date code and it's actually a 61. Probably explains the extra and empty fatboy case that came in the lot?

Question I have. Do I use it or stash it?? This fatboy looks like new. I do not know its history, whether it was replated or is in original condition? No wear at all to the plating, no nicks or scratches anywhere on it. adjusts, clicks and locks better than any fatboy I've ever had. Perfect safety bars. The case is about as perfect as the razor.

Sure tempted to use it. Maybe I need a push?

Sir, use it! You only live once. Unless you are a collector, its a perfect almost NOS razor thats a perfect candidate for a user. Now maybe if it were still in the packaging i might leave it in the package Just take care of her i have a Gillette slim in its original package, and don't plan on opening it . It takes literally 2 minutes: take out the blade each shave and clean soap off the blade set it aside to air dry. Take a toothbrush with some Dawn dishliquid a give it a quick scrub ( i dont scrub where the paint is with a toothbrush) I just take my soapy fingers and rub those areas between the soapy fingers. Make sure you rinse inside of the handle out so shaving soap doesn't buildup and gum up the mechanism. It will last you the rest of your life. IMG_20241006_044400409.jpg Take a microfiber cloth and dry it and literally stand the razor on its handle with the tto doors open so the water will drain for about a couple of hours and whenever its dry put back in the blade and put her back in her case for next use:)

I'm going to go against the grain a bit here and say if you haven't used a Fatboy, or have and didn't care for them, save it for now. If you haven't used one or don't have one, use it, or at least try it.

Ugh. weird typing problems. meant to say "if you have a Fatboy, or have used and didn't care for them, save it"

Use it and enjoy it!! I have one that I had re-chromed, but the doors don't lock down the blade quite as well as they did before the reconditioning. You have what looks to be a brand new piece.....take advantage of it.

When you are the only one who has ever used a razor, you actually know if the razor is funny or not. If the razor is funny you can say "oops, damn these tolerances". But when you buy something on ebay, and you have to clean the gunk off of it, you have no idea of knowing if the wierd side is because the previous user hit it too hard on the tiolet bowl while rinsing if off. Of it it was a oops from the factory.

And with how ebay sellers are, its most usually from being hit to hard against the toilet bowl.
