I knew a kid in college whom everyone called Stan, but his name was actually Sakib and his parents came from Pakistan. Turns out that in freshman year his roommates started calling him "Pakistan the Man," which over time was shortened to Stan. By the time I met him a year later Stan was his established nickname. He's now 60 and his wife, friends, neighbors, and colleagues all call him Stan.

Interesting perspective:
There have been over a dozen variations of usernames starting with "Stan" used here.
The "new" Stan the man signed up, made 16 posts and stopped logging in after about 6 months.
