What's new

The unofficial B&B " Nib lounge "

Well today I got my package of B&B goodies. I went a little mad; my B&B fountain pen got lonely and needed a B&B ink so I bought both just in case I couldn't decide what to use. Then I figured I may as well buy the B&B brush whilst I was at WCS and then I saw the coffee mugs and I enjoy coffee so I needed one of them. It is a shame I don't drink scotch otherwise I would have needed to buy that too. Now I really need a B&B watch but I'm having trouble finding one. What else is B&B that I can buy?

Guys, got a fun question about the nib as I am learning how to to fill up my new converter.

Do I have to stick the whole thing in or can I just dip the tip? I spilled a bit on my first try and wondering if I need protection.

You can try just sticking the tip in, but to get anything accomplished, you'll need to stick the whole thing in. You really should use protection unless you want an accident that you'll have to live with for a while.

You need to put the whole thing in so you pull ink through. If you just put the tip in, you'll end up just sucking air ( or at least mostly just air ). When filling, I usually do so over a paper towel at home & a sheet of scrap paper at work. Once done filling, gently tap the nib on the side of the bottle to drain excess & then wipe the nib and nib section with a piece of paper towel or blotting paper. You'll never get the nib 100% clean, because you will keep sucking ink back through the converter - you just want to get the bulk of what's on the nib so it doesn't drip.

We'll need a pic and then see if we can help set you up with a date. Now I sometimes find it easier to date the European ones.
It took me a minute to remember what I posted last night. My first thought was... "wait I didn't tell these guys I'm going on a date with my wife tomorrow. How do they know about that?" My second thought was, "And she's from Missouri, not Europe."

Buy the bottle a few drinks and don't show her your Hero 616 and you'll have a sporting chance!

Woah, you handled that question with way more dignity and maturity than I would have. Global, if you're going to continue dipping your pens in different inks, and not just stick to one, you'll find it's best to ALWAYS use protection.

Right back at you, Jessy. No other thread I will read today can top this response!

I had to read it several times before posting to make sure that it played on the comment & also remained mature:p

Also, I hadn't had my first cup of coffee, so I was really trying to make sure I wasn't making an idiot of myself.

Maturity is over rated, I of course say this in my cubial and using the new coverletters for the TPS reports. I would rather be playing Tetris and looking out a window.

That was pretty much an underhanded slow lob of a pitch post

Of course I remember way back when I was first learning how to dip my pen in ink... Actually my first time was about 3 weeks ago. Personally, I'm glad I waited and didn't just start dipping my pen because I felt like I was ready. When I meet other fledgling FP users, I'll encourage them to wait until the time is right as well.

But seriously, I need to dip the nib past the breather hole onto the finger rest?

For some pens at least, yes. At least that was on the Fountain Pen 101 on the gouletpens.com stuff I had watched. Not being an expert on every pen, I'd still do it that way since it can't hurt the pen. There was a warning about really light colored pens and saturated dark inks possibly staining them.

I try to get the ink level as high up on the nib as possible. Once you get about 3/4 of the nib covered, you should get ink. You might not get as much as you would if you had the entire nib submerged, but you will definitely get enough to write with.
