The Ultimate Shave Off

Great work Lou and while everything in our shave world is definitely YMMV this may help some with an idea when trying to decide what's next! :cool:

If it would help, I have a common bar handled new short comb I could loan to you for the purpose of the shave off... :evilgrin:

The poll results are very close. Where are the statisticians here to give us a view?

I think it was John Foster Dulles who said "There are three kinds of lies - Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics."

You did it!! Congratulations on an amazing effort. Well Done!

Thanks. I believe anyone who selects any of these razors will be very pleased with the shave they get. I have a very thick, coarse stubble/beard. Someone who has fine thin hair may not need a Futur or a Slant.

I enjoyed shaving with all of them. While I may predominantly use the Slant and GEM's they are all fine razors.

Though the shave off ended with the Slant, I just want to post a quick update.

I shaved with the Barber Pole Slant using Astra Keramik blades. Never again will I buy blades that have been discontinued, since now everything else pales in comparison.

I have also been using a Gem Micromatic, of the closed comb variety, and that has delivered very smooth close shaves as well.

In fact, using the same rating system:

Closeness = 9.5
Smoothness No Irritation = 9.5
Durability = 9.0
Time = 9.0
Audible Feedback = 9.0
Total = 46.0,

or still a great shaver.

+1

I managed to snag 100 Keramiks before they were gone from Melyus, but I'll be damned if I can't find a better razor/blade combination than the Slant Keramik!

Yeah. It is now, over 24 hours later than I am beginning to feel some stubble.

Incidentally, the rating was for the GEM.

I was going to sell the Open Comb. "Was" - then I popped a Red Pack Personnna blade and shaved with it, eight times.

Every time - a smooth, close comfortable shave. An incredible combination that only now, well over 30 hours since my last shave is beginning to show signs of stubble.

After being out all morning in the bitter cold, I came in, warmed up, showered and shaved.

Thiw as my first shave with the Red Tip and it had a freshly loaded Astra Superior blade. I used MyTimeBathandBody "Old School" scent.

I now understand why people love this razor. It did an excellent job of mowing down whiskers. I was left smooth and with no irritation.

More to come...

I finished a week of shaving with the Red Tip. There was not a bad shave in the bunch, Very smooth and comfortable. This truly is an outstanding razor.
