What's new

The Speakeasy Acquisitions 2025

I popped into the local discount package store to see if they carried Fortaleza tequilas. No deal. So I walked over to the port shelves just to see if they had anything new. I was surprised to find 6 bottles of a single quinta vintage port from Warre's, the 2005 Quinta Da Cavadinha. This shop has never carried vintage port. I was also surprised to see the price of $29.99. After a bit of research, I bought two bottles. I could not find a negative review of this SQVP. At less than $32 a bottle, the total purchase was less than any bottle of vintage port I have tried. Time will tell....

I went to the store not intending to buy, but a self described sommelier started a conversation and started recommending bottles. The moscato is a gift for someone else, and the rest for the cooler. After a little research, his recommendations look solid!

I went to the ABC for a browse and to find a cheap and available bourbon to spare a bottle Weller Special Reserve for Old Fashioneds. I happened to see the Spanish vermut rojo we first tried in Madrid which is made in Catalonia. So happy to find it available locally and on sale.

Side by side comparison. WT101($19+)and Early Times($16) bottled in bond. WT is my go to ET is new to me. Early times is lighter and honestly pretty darn good. I’ll still lean towards the turkey.
