The Sixteenth Annual One Blade in February Challenge

Thursday morning OBiF shave #6 (rated 9.5/10) using:
  • Razor: Early 1960s Schick Krona
  • Blade: Early 1960s Comet Super Stainless made by Okava Enterprises (maker of Israeli Eddison blades) in its short-lived Irish factory (6)
  • Brush: Razorock 400 Silver Noir Plissoft synth (top notch)
  • Pre-shave: Stirling Glacial Chill preshave soap and Noxzema
  • Soap: Mike's Natural Tallow Barber Shop scent (wonderful)
  • Post shave: Thayer’s Coconut Witch Hazel followed by Old Spice splash and Stirling Glacial Unscented balm

I recently PIF'd one of my Schick Krona razors from my overflow stash to a work colleague and touted the pure functionality of this almost forgotten competitor to the Gillette Superspeed. So, I decided to pull one of the two in my front line "collection" and take it for a spin. The Krona is not as well-built as a SuperSpeed of the same era, but I find it to be a superb shaving tool. For me, it provides a very mild but somehow still efficient shave. This morning was exactly that.

The blade is showing signs of distress "only" six shaves into OBiF. Usually, I can take a Comet to 10 shaves without breaking a sweat. This particular one has been a little bit of an outlier, and not in a good way. Nonetheless, the Krona/Comet combo got the job done to BBS- levels of closeness and without irritation. I dinged my score for the shave on the smoothness and closeness scores because it wasn't perfection on those criteria.

My shave scoring log is found HERE.

Happy shaves everyone :badger:

Could be most likely nutjob stuff
I am curious Simon @Alum Ladd - does the Rocket shave similar to your Aristocrat Jr? Both have the same patent number I believe so I was just wondering if they then share the same head - I.e. no difference in shave…(asking for a friend with RAD obviously! Haha!). This “friend” managed to dodge a bullet with a Gillette Ranger Tech on BST.
Hi Guido :) I'm pretty sure it shares the same head as the German Parat I recently got. Both in the same timeframe of late 50's and same later pat no. Even got the II medium aggression marking.

What seems to be slightly different is that the Parat is mounted on a very weighty Rocket body. It looks similar to the No. 51/53 AJ actually. The weight difference may give it an impression of slightly more bite.

The No 48 and No 51/53 (the same razor just offered in different cases) have the flat bottom and the 430 030 pat no and they are significantly more aggressive.

They are all fantastic shavers, highly efficient and smoothy smoothy.

Hi Mitch @mgweatherly I have heard the US FT's are smoother than their UK counterparts. Interesting as this is very smooth anyway so the US version must be like a silky kiss of a shave.

The Super Speed Flare Tips are pretty rare here. I have never seen one. An English RT SS recently sold for auction for nearly £200 on the bay I recall. Uncased.

Second One Blade In Fixed, Fragrance-Free February

Last night’s cap-riding shave of comfort
RazoRock Game Changer 0.68OC on PAA el Fantasma handle
Cloud Bruce Lee (4)
Damp facecloth aka “shave binky”
AP ShaveCo Black and Butterscotch Pure Bliss 22mm synthetic brush
Pre-shave: lukewarm shower :001_wub: and a few splashes of cold water
Lather: Wee Babby savon à raser, face-lathered
Aftershave: Olm Nom
Post-shave: face wash with shave binky and a drop of hyaluronic acid and a drop of glycerin
Post-shave: Equate moisturizer

About equal closeness to the last shave (not a flex), but sooo much better during the shave, immediately after, and even almost twelve hours later, too. With the thumb, index, and middle on the end of the handle, the razor head was more stable and touched down lighter. Still room for improvement per the aftershave, but a noticeable uptick in comfort.

The blade is showing signs of distress "only" six shaves into OBiF.

Is the blade a little Mamba’s boy?

One Blade In February Challenge #13

Razor:
Muhle Rocca R94
Blade: Personna Platinum (13)
Brush: Simpsons Trafalgar T3
Soap: Stirling Sharp Dressed Man
Post Shave: Nivea Hyaluron Creme
A/S: Davidoff Cool Water

Another carbon copy shave tonight and things went well again and paying a little more attention than last night meant I had a much closer shave with no rough patches. It wasn't the smoothest finish, but it was still close enough.

Well alrighty then...shave #6 on the Ol' Yeller 7 O'Clock.

Got a new Henson ++ in the mail on monday, figured I'd try it tonght. Wasnt sure I wanted to do the "Debut Shave" with a blade that has 5 priors. But I figured it still has to be better than those RK's that they send with the razors, so I loaded it up.

What I got was probably the best & easiest shave I've gotten since started DE shaving, a whole year ago. I'm SOLD !!

Henson ++ Copper

Gillette 7 O'Clock yellow (6)
