The Scandal Sheet: Straights and other stuff

I had been going back and forth about whether to mention this, as I'm not one to air my dirty laundry online, generally, but I have to give a shout-out to Phil at @BullGoose . I discovered a defect in the Mondial brush I recently bought, and emailed Phil on Saturday, mostly just to let him know, as I was more than willing to attempt to correct it myself. But he reached out to Mondial and they'll be sending me a replacement. Great service from both entities.

I realized something, that I hadn't articulated very well in the midst of the discussions about MdC in Boris's journal. One of the reasons I like it, especially spring through fall, is that my skin can't handle a super-nourishing soap too many days in a row. Less of a problem in the winter. But after frequently hitting the Dolomiti for several days, it was clear to me that I needed something more simple today. Back to the Rose, and it was just lovely. I face lathered it entirely today with the Paladin and that was very nice too.

Straight was Star Reito, DE pass was R41GS, and finished with the Veg.

Be well.View attachment 2013911
That is an interesting observation, Matt. I hadn't considered that. I'm still messing around in my head for the MdC-like recipe I go with, and I was thinking about intentionally adding something to put back the moisture taken out by the saponified coconut oil.

Decisions, decisions...

@blethenstrom , I was thinking about the following oil composition. Given the above, should I go with a lighter (less viscous) oleic oil at the end, or, with these quantities, it shouldn't matter? I don't want a soap that's drying, but one that's neutral.

  • 28% coconut oil (first into the lye)
  • 57% Stearic acid
  • 7% castor oil
  • 8% sweet almond oil (last in)
5% Superfat

That would work well
