The Scandal Sheet: Straights and other stuff

Not a lot to say today, another very nice shave. Used my Kikuboshi 8300. I found myself using longer, slightly more forceful strokes for some reason and didn't pay any price other than getting done quicker. The soap was Beeswax, lathered up with the Paladin team brush. Really liking this brush. Just the right tip feel, flexible but with backbone, and of course above all, pretty. Cleanup with the same 7 Day from yesterday seemed smoother and closer. Maybe it shed its coating. Finished with Proraso Red splash for a nice warm, protective layer to face another (slightly) subzero morning.

Been listening to the album A Moment of Forever by Kris Kristofferson. "Shipwrecked in the 80s" has always resonated with me but "Slouching Towards the Millennium" seems poignant today too. Ironically he wrote that song during the Clinton administration but it's still powerful. Although the spoken word section is rather dated.

Be well.

Had a rather zippy shave today, relatively speaking, with my Kyoei. Whipped up a nice Beeswax lather with the Rudy/Semogue boar and the whiskers got whisked away in short order. Even the 7 Day in the R41GS seemed a little more effective even than yesterday. Best part is that the Veg barely tingled afterwards. That's the kind of shave I'm looking for.

Had some good news yesterday about something that's been stressing me out since before Christmas. An unexpected financial challenge that has now been basically resolved. It's nice to breathe easy.

Slowly getting more work done on the replacement scales for my Feon. Got them stained Sunday night. Have been too busy to really do anything else. I think I'm going to get a first coat of poly at least on the faces around the pin holes and then pin the wedge in. Will still have to shape the wedge to fit after that so some touch up will be required on that end. But I'm pleased with how they're looking so far.

Listened to And Justice For All this morning. I should say, started it. A lot has been written about the "missing" bass track on this album although I think that's somewhat overstated. There is a lot of bass presence, actually--just not much attack. Overall the guitar and bass sounds are quite cohesive. No arguing that it's all very sterile, though, and that's not for everyone. The bigger story, and the one that gets lost in all that drama, is how badly mixed the drum sounds are. That's a complaint (legitimate, in my opinion) that you hear about many of their later albums but it definitely started on Justice. Still, this stands as one of their best albums, musically and lyrically.

Be well.

I don't mean to offend so please don't take this the wrong way, but I read that in the Patrick Bateman voice and it was very fitting.
