View attachment 2012808View attachment 2012809Arrived earlier than expected! Showed up last night. This is stunning. Every as bit as remarkable as everyone claimed. Can't wait to give it a go tonight. I apologize in advance for all the photos. To do the Sailor justice I just felt I had to capture it from all angles:a28:

My Sailor arrived earlier than I expected. First shave last night and some observations.

All I can say is this razor is outstanding and beautiful. If you appreciate fine craftsmanship and beautifully engineered examples of precision then the Sailor is the instrument to covet. The obvious heft can't be ignored but once you start to use it, the weight becomes a non issue. Let the weight of the razor do the work for you and you'll be rewarded with an efficient, comfortable shave.
This a substantial razor. At first I was a little intimidated to head shave with the Sailor but with the first stokes that concern quickly fades. I don't know how Murat does it, but everything about the Sailor just plain works. Finding the correct angle is intuitive and comes easily. I tend to prefer mild to mid-aggressive razors and setting so I threw in a Perma-Sharp blade and started at #1 because everyone mentions how efficient the Sailor can be. The first pass head shaving three days growth was a revelation. The feel is unique and quite nice. A different feeling all it’s own not like other razors I’ve used. No trouble mowing through the growth and not as aggressive as I thought it would be, so bumped up to 2 for the second pass. No nicks or cuts just letting the weight of the razor do its thing. Decided to keep it at 2 for face shaving. Really enjoyed the feel on the first pass and got a little cocky and went for BBS which I rarely do. Throwing caution to the wind, cranked it up to 3. Three passes, WTG, ATG, and finally XTG and achieved BBS but the aftershave sting tells me I overdid it. I think for the next shave I’ll start on the higher settings and work down for subsequent passes.

Now for comparisons (with adjustables that I own): The Sailor, a DFS but for the first shave and uniquely different. I think the Muramasa gave me a closer shave overall with just slightly less irritation. Compared to the Osprey the Sailor is more efficient and more blade feel at the lower settings but the Osprey has more range with settings 1 to 9 instead of the Sailor’s 5. The Osprey can be dialed much milder at the lower end for those daily shaves or recovery days. I haven’t shaved above 3-4 with the Osprey so that may be more comparable to the Sailors starting point of 1. I haven’t spent enough time with REX Konsul to do a fair shave comparison with that one yet though I feel the Muramasa and Sailor are in a different league than the Konsul which looks a little more industrial to me. Of course all this may change as I get more familiar with each YMMV.

great review and I'm glad you're happy. I'm currently testing razor blades which will be the best for my sailor because I have very hard beard despite softening and my skin is delicate and sometimes I get irritations after shaving. So I'm testing razor blades and I think that in about 2-3 months I'll know what will be the best for my sailor. I'm also waiting for your experiences regarding razor blades

Looking forward to your razor blade assessment.
