The fast shaving thread

Today I tried this shaving cream without a brush only to convince myself again that brushless != fast. Still 5 mins due to the excessive rinsing duration.

I timed myself this morning. Starting from making a cup of tea (I drink a cuppa with every shave), three passes (WTG, 2 x XTG) to finish putting away all my shaving gear was only 63 minutes!

This consisted of:

Making cup of tea to drink during the shave​

Selecting which SR, strop, brush and soap to use (the most stressful part)​

Stropping on clean leather​

Thoroughly washing and then rinsing face​

Face lathering​

Shaving three passes​

Rinsing and drying blade and brush​

Stropping on clean cloth​

Rinsing and drying face​

Applying aftershave splash​

Stropping blade on hanging pasted balsa strop​

Applying Renaissance wax to blade and polishing​

Putting everything away ready for tomorrow's enjoyment​

For a “proper” shave for me it takes around 20 minutes. Is what it takes to listen to the news on the radio while I shave so it synchronizes nicely, it starts with the big headlines while I lather up, follows with the minutia of the details while I carefully glide the razor around my face, and finish with the happy news of the day while I apply the aftershave

I don't find SR shaving slower than DE since it always takes me around the same.

I’ve done it in a hurry without compromising comfort or quality and I’ve clocked around 2 minutes tops, but that only happens around end of the world type of situations. like having to attend a unannounced meeting with heads of the company, or attending my brother’s wedding after being woken up by the best man literally minutes before the ceremony (picture hangover movie scenario🫣)

But if I am in too much of a hurry and a clean shaven face is not an absolute must, then not shave at all, I am confident on my skills, but I am also confident my razors are “razor sharp” so why play with fire if I am not planning to get burned?

I don't typically time myself shaving but if I'm in a hurry I will use canned shave foam and one of the multiple cartridge razor systems I have. I try not to be in a hurry.

At my age nothing is done fast.
By the time I get out of the car and into the store, the sale is usually over.

For me the fastest shave was 9 minutes with a one pass across the grain shave using an artist club folding straight razor with a feather pro super blade. Williams mug soap and a boar brush, no cuts , nicks or weepers. I was trying to replicate the Billy Hukin shave video, no can do at least not yet
