The Barbour Bedale Waxed Jacket

I guess I’m just surprised you got two waxed Barbour’s. I bought one many years ago based on comments I’d seen on this forum and was underwhelmed. I’ve probably worn it 2-3 times in the last ~15 years - but my Filson gear gets worn daily in the winters.

The Mackinaw Wool jackets are spectacular. Sometimes you can find them at deep discounts on the Filson website and toss a promo code in for a compelling deal. I picked up a black/white Mack cruiser for only $225 a month ago. I pretty much exclusively wear Filson Wool jackets (Jac shirts, Mac cruisers, Mac work jackets, Mac Anorak, Mac double coat, lined Mac Jack shirts, etc) all fall winter and spring. Their effective temp range is surprisingly wide and it’s very difficult to overheat in them. Unless I’m going to be in the rain for hours, or are hunting in brush, etc - my tin cloth sits in the closet.

Did you see this blue one from this season?

Well yes (EUR 460) but it's a bit complicated. I dropped them off at a B&M (not Barbour related) in Vienna and they source the work with a 3rd party in Germany as sending it directly to Barbour UK isn't commercial feasible anymore since Brexit. So there is the shipping around, the actual work and the handling fee for the B&M.

On the other hand both of them are well over 10 years old and will hopefully look like new afterwards.
At the risk of being contrary, save yourself 460 euros and just wear your worn Barbour with pride! A well worn example will gain you entrance to the fanciest of places ;)

Is that the Chris Stapleton jacket?

I'm a Lumberjack.
Mine could use a rewaxing. Ideally I’d like to diy it but probably will never do it.

It will be both, patches where needed and an overall reconditioning. Stuff with intentional holes in it I leave to the fashionable kids from today.

How’s Barbour’s handiwork/craftsmanship on the repairs?

Upon closer inspection:

How is the stitching?

Has the feel of the jacket changed after being reconditioned?

They seem to have taken great care in aligning the tartan pattern.

Seeing a patchy, reconditioned Barbour makes me want to wear mine everyday to achieve that very same condition. 😀

I can’t detect any irregularties, the stitching is as good as the original one. They feel a bit stiffer and a bit more heavy to wear but the weight difference might just be imagined. I like the smell of the wax coating too :)

I have a 3 day business trip to Poland upcoming and most probably will take it with me also putting in the liner.

Today I honoured the Barbour Flagship store in Stockholm with a visit, aiming gor a Beaufort waxed jacket. A UK44 was perfect in size, then looked for a Liddesdale which was OK in XL. Finally, I bought a Powell jacket in XXL...Honestly, I don't have a clue how Barbour decide their sizes.

Companies who sell Barbour clothing online must have a separate departement taking care of all returns and delivery of alternative sizes to all customers who find the sizes ordered to be something different to what they have expected. Also parcel handling compainies must see Barbour as a solid customer...
