The Apollo family of razors

Jake, those are some fine German razors. I used to have a small collection of old razors about 14 years ago. They went bye-bye during an unpleasantness with a former spouse. The only one I have left is a German travel razor and a couple of WW2 Gold-Stern packs of blades. Mine isn't anything to took at, it's fairly worn and has no maker on it that I can tell. The only marks are A.Z. Germany inside the blade head and Made in Germany on the small square case. The case is lined in pruple velvet like material.
Why not post a photo of your set? And also the blades...

Will get it done tomorrow after work

Great photos Jake. Was there no retaining ring holding the adjusting knob in the shaft in these? (Or do I see one just above the knob?)

Does anyone got more info on my set (page 1). Lately suggested as being a "Ben Hur". Checking the german forums out I am not to sure about that.. May be wrong though.

I just re-read your 1:st post. Apollo used pot metal for many of their early razors and several members have examples of these and sadly they look far from grand these days. But there are exceptions. Here are a couple of pics of my Apollo. Don´t know for sure but I don´t believe pot metal was used. The coating is thick as a brick. And it´s an early one. Can´t really figure out the decade but since it´s stamped with D.R.G.M it´s pre WW2 for sure. Any insight in the age of this one would be appreciated.

I have one just like this. One of my favourite razors. I believe that the handle is brass and the head is zamac. I have plating loss on the bottom plate and the metal underneath the plate loss is very dark grey/black in colour.

Your going to be waiting a while Alex. His last post was in April.

I know, i saw his postings and dates, sometimes they do chime in. I think many members post for few 1.000 times and leave. There are few Diehards like yourself that have been sticking around for a while now.

I`ve got a German made Ben Hur Mikron in front of me right now, which looks identical to the Apollo Mikron.

Is there any actual difference between the two in reality? Were they made for different markets?

Why don't you post some photos if your set? Then we can comment on what seems to be what.

Anyone know if that Ben Hur is the same as the Apollo? There doesn`t seem to be too much information about these things.

Nice razor Dub. As to your question I believe they are the same as they used the same logo.I also read somewhere one can date that Apollo by the design. This was based on the vintage Merkur adjustable that have the same logo. Sorry I wish I could offer more but getting ready to sit down for dinner. Look up Merkur Adjustable.
