Avocado > Rose, both in scent and performance.
Say it with me now..."YMMV".
Indeed.
On scent, personal taste. I find the Avocado scent pleasant. The avocado smell is more background, and the dominant scent for me is almost oceany, like Escape perfume (was that the name of it--the one parodied on Seinfeld). Rose is flowery, but to me it smells a bit like dolies at grandma's or some Victorian B&B. Not unpleasant, but not my favorite.
On lather, I prefer Avocado. Thicker lather, almost impossible to get wrong in terms of water. Gives a really moist feel for the shave and doesn't dry at all. Rose lathers pretty well but can be a bit more finicky. The lather is thinner and less rich. For the shave it's still very good but perhaps not quite as much lubrication. It seems slightly drying, at least in comparison, but not greatly so.
Overall both have been reliable performers and I alternate them. I tend to use Avocado on colder days when it's feeling dry and Rose on warmer days. I also use Avocado if I haven't shaved in a couple of days.
