Taking care of a badger brush

I bowl and face lather, circular and paint strokes, no issues with any tangling. I'm actually use my Kent 8 at the moment too.

I soak them in hot water and even dry them by standing them on their base....crazy, I know.:wink2:

As someone said above, they are tools that were designed to be used. It would really takes a lot of effort or something really wacky to damage them.

I had looked at this thread earlier without any real concern, but ironically, later tonight when using the bathroom, I notice my Vie horsehair brush which I had used this morning looked a bit bedraggled. In addition to genral matting of hairs which was easily resolved, it looked like a sizeable hollow had developed in the centre of the brush. On closer inspection, I could see that a sizeable clump of the horsehair had become entangled upon itself and was quite firmly knotted. Over the next hour, I performed extensive surgery using a diversity of tools from knitting needles to my dogs' wide toothed comb (combined with a small dollop of patience and a growing frustration). It was touch and go at times, but I eventually managed to loosen all the hairs with minimal hair loss.

I have been using this brush and others (boar, badger, synthetic) for a few years now, without any difficulty of this type. I vary how I lather, sometime face lathering but generally in a bowl; I use mainly circular strokes, combined with some straight ones. I use the Vie horse hair brush (excellent brush BTW) maybe twice a week. Maybe today I was just unlucky, maybe I was more vigorous than normal this morning, maybe horse hair is more prone to tangling, but I certainly will be somehat more careful in this regard in future, particularly with regard to cleaning the brush - I certainly would not like to end up losing a sizeable clump of hair that became entangled, for whatever reason it happened.

I have one brush and it is a badger. I have used it with circular motion ever since it was new...22 years. Still perfect. Use it, rinse it and hang it by the handle with bristles down to dry..... Nawww that is bs

Sounds to me like it just means you must be doing it wrong.

Hey, I don't know if this is related or not but I had a dog that just couldn't lay down without turning around in the same direction 3 or 4 times. I don't think his hairs ever got tangled. At least not so much that you would notice.
