Suggested Soaps based on Colognes (Homages)

I tend to prefer soap fragrances which are based on colognes, also referred to as homages, and always try to buy the matching splash and balm if available. In addition to the nice scent, it tends to cut down on the risk which comes with buying something untested. I thought it would be helpful to make a running list of suggested homages to use as a reference for the B&B community.

Please list your suggested soap, the fragrance it's based on, if it has an accompanying splash and balm, and any thoughts you’d like to share. Here are mine so far, all from Stirling which I love due to the matching splashes and balms. I really like the Stirling balms which repair and soften my skin without causing irritation or break outs. Looking forward to some other suggestions.

Stirling Executive Man

Based on Creed Aventus. Has matching splash and balm. Clean and masculine. Gets high marks from my wife and frequent positive comments when I wear it out. Tends to lean towards “a night out” vibe so I don’t wear this to the office.

Stirling Sharp Dressed Man

Based on Creed Green Irish Tweed. Has matching splash and balm. A little on the sweet side but still masculine. Perfect for summertime. Not too overpowering, so OK for office setting, while still good for a night out.

Stirling Baker Street

Based on a now defunct fragrance called Strop Shoppe. Has matching splash and balm. Very juniper forward but still masculine. Complex and refreshing, without being too suggestive. Perfect for office setting.

Stirling Mountain Man

Based on Creed Silver Mountain Water. Has matching splash and balm. My wife calls this the Freesia scent. I guess it smells like Freesia to her, although its not listed as a note by either Stirling or Creed. Very fresh and outdoorsy without being overpowering. Great for casual settings.

Stirling Rambling Man

Based on Creed Himalaya. Has matching splash and balm. A very intense scent with big woodsy and floral notes. Can be a bit overpowering and clawing so use it less frequently, although still OK for office setting.

Stirling Island Man

Based on Creed’s Virgin Island Water. Has matching splash and balm. As expected, a tropical and ocean vibe. Great for days by the beach or pool.

There are quite a lot actually, here are some of my favorites (I am a Stirling fanboy, so there is that)
Stirling Piacenza based on Aqua di Parma (Absolute favorite summer scent, used the soap, splash and cologne today as a matter of fact)
Stirling Arkadia based on terre de Hermes. Awesome citrus/vetiver scent, another favorite.
Stirling Agar (not sure if they still make this one?) Based on Tom Ford Oud Wood. Intoxicating scent
Fine American Blend based on YSL Rive Gauche (i still have a bottle of Rive Gauche and this is an excellent interpretation) Barbershops scents don't seem as popular as they were a few years ago, but this one is the best IMO.

Areffa Soap has a wide selection of fragrance dupes. I love their bear tallow soap and cream, but I mostly use their shaving cream.

Most of the Stirling dupes I've tried, I've liked. Arkadia, Piacenza, Campania, Haverford, Agar (discontinued, sadly). Alighieri is nice in it's own right but I don't think anyone would mistake it for Fahrenheit, which it's based on. And Shadow Orchid was pretty "meh." I love TF Black Orchid, though.

The Razor Company has a line of soaps and splashes of good quality that are mostly based on colognes. They are on sale for Father's Day until 11:59 PM ET.

Acerbus, inspired by Creed Pure White, is outstanding.

Now that I have worked out which soaps I prefer, (which include Chiseled Face, A&E, Maggards, Stirling…) I am in the long process of working out my preferred matching fragrance.

My top one, that I am all in is Maggards London Barbershop. I have their Witch Hazel splash, EDT, and soap. I also have their (sample) Lime and Bergamot with matching Witch Hazel Splash. Also, recently picked up a puck of Stirling Varen (mutton tallow) and matching balm.

I like the Razorock Black Label which someone here said was based on Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. My wife, however, calls it "the fabric softener one".
When I first got the Black Label soap, I didn't like it much. It slowly grew on me, though, and now it's a favorite. funny how that works.

I just used Stirling Duke today. I’ve been holding onto this sample soap and splash for over a year.

It’s a dupe of Burberry Brit. A very pleasant clean scent.

The bottle of Brit that I had in a closet with a few final sprays left that I was saving for a special occasion dried out on me.

I came across a bottle of Brit this weekend; grabbed it and finally used the sample. I give it a big thumbs up and I’ll be buying the full size soap and splash.

Lots of love for Stirling’s Red Eye (Polo Red Intense) which also hasn’t been mentioned.

Honorable mention to Haverford, Executive Man, Solidus, Stirling Green, Deep Blue Sea, Sandpiper, Mountain Man and Stirling Black.

Googled a scent description for Burberry Brit.

Top notes are Ginger, Cardamom, Bergamot and Green Mandarin;

middle notes are Wild Rose, Nutmeg, Cedar and Spicy Notes;

base notes are Tonka Bean, Gray Musk, Cedar, Oriental Woodsy notes and Patchouli.

Saw this, but thought it would be helpful to get suggestions from the community and why they like it.

To be fair though, if the idea was just to do a compendium of user suggestions you would get way too many different ones and it wouldn’t be helpful, because everyone’s interpretations and opinions are different. And in all honesty, the majority of us are not true scent gurus to where we can pick out the nuances from perfumes/colognes (and their dupes).
And if you’re comparing dupes, you really need to have tried a bunch of different versions of the same scent to be able to give an accurate comparison and/or recommendation.

unscented van der Hagen melted and sprayed with any edc you like.

Currently using VDH with Tommy Bahama set sail St. Barts
When I first got into wetshaving it was a common practice in another forum to make "Van der Spice" - VdH + Old Spice. Usually, it involved pouring as much OS into melted VDH that you could and not degrade its lather. after it firmed back up. I tried to do the same with Aqua Velva, and let's just say it wasn't awesome.

I still have a few pucks of unused VDH from those days.
