Speed Queen?

We’ve had the same top-loading Speed Queen (Alliance) washer for at least 10 years. The only thing I’ve had to do to it is put in soap and clothes. It was a bit pricier back then. Worth every penny. No fancy electronics, it just works.

I’ve had the same dryer for 20 years. It was a cheap, simplistic dryer when I bought it. I’ve had to do a few things to it over the years. Last year, I replaced all of the thermal switches in it. And the drive belt a few times. Still, it has been a decent unit.

Speed Queen is one of the top commercial machine makers.

Used is the way for me. I bought a 1 year old used rental washer 32 years ago. I've put one $15 part in it over the years. It's a simple twist dial machine. I've had 3 dryers in that time. One was free. The other two were less than 100 bucks. All also dial knob machines

I’ll be buying a new washer and dryer very soon. Is there an option that’s better than Speed Queen? We’ve went through way too many washers and dryers over the years. I want to buy once and done. At my age that can be an option.
I agree a great machine and I own one (10+years). I have only the base unit with mechanical controls - not digital. Mine has been bullet proof and just gets the job done without any glitz. Made in USA too. Highly recommended. Cheers...

Do you want a top loader with agitation? If so Speed Queen in the US.

Front loader - LG is pretty hard to beat followed by Electrolux.

Side note: my father owned laundromats - i have worked on machines since I was a kid. I personally have LG front load machines.

The washer had been flawless for 5 years, I run 1/2 cup of citric acid through it every 15-20 washes.

The dryer has been trouble - quite a bit. But I have kept it running without down time. Still, it is junk.

Ugh, my washer has been starting to act up so I have been researching now ones. I stumbled upon a Facebook group called “Speed Queen Rinse and Regret,” full of disgruntled speed queen owners. Apparently, like everything else today, they ain’t what they used to be.

And it seema that most of the major brands like Maytag and Amanda are pretty much all made by Whirlpool anymore, including my Maytag drier. And they are all junk from what I am reading. I guess I’ll just buy something cheap and replace it when it breaks.

But are those "regretting " the owners of the TC5 Speed Queen ? ...

They don’t like any of them, including the old school TC5 series. Many reports of the tc5‘s being rough on clothes, and the speed queen driers burning clothes. Log into Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1527741330918358
It's a group for Negative reviews of Speed Queen. Of course they don't like them. Positive reviews and praise isn't allowed, it's in the rules.

When our current Whirlpool konks out, I'm replacing the shift actuator today after 2y and 15 days as it stopped spinning, I'll be buying a Speed Queen (or Canadian brand name equivalent).

My wife was against it when we were looking as it wasted water and us rough on clothes. But at least it will last more than 2y like this one did.

Just sharing what I uncovered in my research for a new washer. I don’t have any experience with SQ so I can’t comment, I can say that most of the new washing machines seem to be based on the same model, with a different user interface (Whirlpool’s VMV; Vertical Modular Washer), which are not anywhere near as good as Whirlpool’s of old. They are pretty much the same washer with a different brand name slapped on, Maytag, for example.
