I won't claim to have a wide variety of DE experience (the R89 was my first and I quickly went to straights), but I won't argue it is a good one! And the Lavender is particularly good in the uber. Speaking of DEs, have you tried the Gillette Spoilers? Outstanding vintage blades!

Bill, only ever used Feathers, Bolzanos, Sharks SC and Gillette Yellows. And now straights are my thing, can't see the DEs getting much use now. I never thought I'd be saying that. Amazing what 2 months can do for you!!

Nice shave today with the Senator

First Straight shave in a couple of months. How I missed the fun...

Prep: Hot Shower
Soap: TABAC
Brush: Omega 48 Pro
Razor: Joesph Elliot's Best Silver Steel 5/8th's Wedge
Toner: Thayers Lemon W.H.
A/S: Pinaud Clubman
Balm: Nivea Sensitive ASB

Friday 10-07-11.

Soap from Aleppo 100% oliva - Semogue 1305 - Gillette Rocket HD500 - Gillette Super Thin #2 - Pre Proraso - Palmolive shaving soap - Alum block - Toner Thayers Original - ASB Truefitt & Hill - ASL TOBS Nº74.

- face prep during shower w/ Haci Sakir Olive/Honey, hot towel
- Taylor shaving cream Sandalwood scented w/ Cerrus badger
- 1952 Gillette Super Speed Black Tip w/ new Red Personna
- Pitralon After Shave (German version)

As opposed to this weeks theme not my favorite razor, but still a nice and classic experience. Taylor's sandalwood scent is to die for.

Sorry for the blurry image -- a phone camera plus bad light just won't do the trick :wink2:

Preshave: Hot water
Uberlather: Arko, lathered on the face/bigelow/glycerin
Brush: BAJA Pure Badger
Razor: Henckels Friodur, 1920-1940
Post: Mud Mask/Shower
Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel
AfterShave: Pinaud Clubman
Moisturizer: Linea Bimbi Crema Emolliente
EDT: Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan

Lathered up the Arko, then went over it with a foam of bigelow and glycerin. For some strange reason, this started to dry before I even finished the first wtg pass, and had to be reapplied. Second xtg pass saw the bigelow/glycerin lather only, which was very slick.

Threw on a mud mask before hitting the shower. What a pampered kisser today!

I hope everyone's Friday evening is GREAT, Gentlemen!

***Saturday's Shower and Shave***

A long hot shower, while showering the Parker Badger was warming up for his workout today. On the sidelines warming up was a puck of Goatie Girl's Peppermint. The bathroom was filled with the peppermint scent.
The Goatie Girl's was lathered up in pillowly mounds by the Badger. The Gillette Open Comb with a Lord blade was choosen for today's shave.
After a great shave I spalshed cold water on my face, the tingle of the peppermint lingered. I applied Arko Aqua Balm as the crowning of a DFS.

Thanks Gentlemen for the kind words. David- the R41 is a wonderfully aggressive DE (as I'm sure you are aware). I find that I achieve good results when I treat it as I would a straight and really exaggerate the facial gymnastics during my shave- otherwise it is toooo easy to pick up a weeper (or even a nick) or two.

David, I didn't really give the R41 long enough use to experience it to the full. After only 5 shaves or so, my straight adventure took off, and I have since sold some DEs, including the R41. It is an aggressive razor, no doubt, requiring a slightly different approach to others. Maybe it's just a few weeks of experience, but I would say a straight razor for me now is LESS aggressive than that R41 as I remember it. Glad it's going well for you.
