Arko

If you were looking for one great performing, ultra cheap soap for a daily workhorse, why wouldn't it be the Arko stick? Just a quick face lather right out of the shower. So slick I wouldn't think of using a preshave oil. Cushion, glide, fresh scent - it does it all!

This is really peaking my intrest in the Arko shave stick !! I will have to order some this month to try !! Great shot !!

Thanks! Just a quick cellphone shot I thought twice about posting since I hadn't even cleaned the razor afterward. I liked the shave so much I had a second tonight!

Love that cream. I force myself to reach for something else nearly every morning and end up using it only once or twice a week. Lathers so easily it is like cheating!

Razor: Muehle Chrome Stylo

Think Pink! I love it.

Pre-Shave: Hot shower
Razor: 7/8" Solingen Stainless (Friodur Blank), 1/4 Hollow, Round Point
Brush: 22mm Vulfix Super Badger
Überlather: Trumper's Violet Shave Creme + Mama Bear's "Victorian Violets" Shave Soap + Glycerin
Astringent: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol)
Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-Free Moisturizer
After Shave Splash: Floïd Italian Amber
Result: Today was a good test of this beauty's performance, especially after a no-shave Sunday. I got this beautiful Solingen Stainless from David (aka, Cadomniel). The scales are snakewood
and the blade is made from Friodur Blanks (at least that is my understanding). The edge was in need of a little honing TLC. Being a 1/4 hollow and ss, it took a little bit longer than usual to set the bevel to an even tone using the Naiwa 1k. But once she was there and cutting hair, the progression to the Coticule (La Grosse Blanche) and the Kiita/Asagi JNat finisher was effortless. The reward was an astonishingly sharp, yet smooth edge. And what they say is true: spending time on the bevel is key to achieving the proper edge (I am still perfecting this step). Trumper's and Mama Bear's Violet combo was a delight to the senses. What a way to start Monday. The Solingen had no problems with my thick, 24 hr beard...mowed through that bush like a hot knife through butter. Monday is off to a fabulous start.

I love Arko as well. Mine is crushed into a bowl and I will use it later this week.

Thanks David. I should probably use a camera instead of my phone at some but I couldn't be bothered to get it fixed at the moment.

You enjoying the Cade challenge? It hardly looks like you put a dent in that puck.

Keith- Christmas is coming. Plenty of reasons to get the camera up and running again! I have really enjoyed using the Cade soap for this month- it has been a good learning experience but I am itching to get back into the den and use some other stuff. I normally only make 2 passes when I shave, so perhaps I don't use a soap puck as quickly as some others. BTW- Cade is a pretty good soap.

BIC blades alway disapoint me ...I don't ever know why I keep insisting on trying them once in a while.

The end of another month gents! Where do they go?

MWF Hand Soap,
GFT Limes SF as prep,
Palmolive Classic SS Stick,

Merkur 33c/Feather(2),
Alum Block,
GFT Limes SF,
EdT not decided at this stage!

Predopobarba Proraso
LiJün&1980 Finest badger
Bottega Verde Uomo crema da barba
Mühle R89
Personna red pack (3)
Thayers Witch Hazel lemon
Weleda baume après rasage

Sort of an indifferent shave this morning. Not sure what the issue was

NDC Super Speed + Derby Extra vertical (1st use)
Simpson Duke 1 in Best
RB scuttle
TOBS 'Shaving Shop' cream + Trader Joe's Honey-Mango cream + Col. Conk Bay Rum soap
Master's 'Challenge' AS splash

The only thing that I can think of is that somehow the combination of 2 creams and a soap was "too much" of something. I noticed that I didn't get the slickness that I usually get with the TJ's but also the results of my first pass were terrible. Certainly not a bad shave but definitely not something to write home about.

Have a great day, chaps!

-Greg
