Soluna razor

This little OC baby has only 28 grams, and my 91 year old neighbor gave it to me as a gift. The razor was part of some vintage men's travel kit over 50 years old.

At first I thought I'd throw it away, because I generally avoid used personal care items, and it seemed quite cheap. I gave it a try, and I put used blade from my razor to Soluna. I started shaving routinely, quickly, as skilled as I am after almost 30 years of wet shaving, and I didn't notice that the razor was insanely aggressive. However, the shave was so baby smooth! Soluna with a discarded blade gave me better shave than my regular razor with a new blade!

I don't have many razors in my collection, there's Merkur 15C, Gillette Super Slim Twist (1973), and some pretty mild Wilkinson that I've used when I need a quick one-day growth shave. BUT: cheap Soluna blew them all away with the shaving quality.

I posted a picture when you can see blade angle and exposure. With this little devil I prefer baseplate ride rather than top cap ride, it seems safer to me, and I don't have courage to do an ATG pass, except on my cheeks. My final pass is XTG.

That is a great read. And shows people that thing people see or think is cheap are good and is quality stuff. I unfortunately don't have older neighbors or older family members who shaved manually.

And you said this razor is better than others in your collection even a 1973 Gillette Super Slim Twist. Fortunately i am looking for a 1973 razor (the year i was hatched) so if you feel this cheaper razor is better i have a $7.23 gift card thing i can email for the Gillette.... hahahaha...

And again a great story and i am glad you gave this razor a try...

Thank you for your kind reply.

Honestly, I wasn't impressed with 1973 TTO Gillette, I only keep it in my collection because it was my dad's razor.

Maybe it doesn't suit me IDK, it gives a relatively mild shave, but I get very strong irritation after the ATG pass every time. That's why I switched to Merkur, not so smooth shave, but comfortable af.
