What's new

Soldiers, stand up: the Colonel is here!

I must confess, that I put an "O" ring on it for that extra, extra stiff backbone which I am now dependent on.

What size O-ring did you use? I must say, it's actually a sharp look!

Oh, I SO made the right decision selling my Eagle and buying a Colonel...

Beautiful fan, knot measures 47-48mm high, and a smidge less dense puts this knot in the sweet spot.

Marco,

I noticed that your brush has the Simpson sticker on the "Colonel" side of the handle instead of the "X2L - Best Badger" side of the handle. Did you make this change your self? Or is Vulfix doing this now with these brushes? Thanks in advance for the help.

I thought you were going to let the Eagle and Colonel fight it out :biggrin1:

Ddid you sell the eagle before the colonel arrived?

Who knows?? Those stickers are wonderful but not built or positioned to last.

I'm not very good at this. I will use it tomorrow and remove the ring (I only remove it when its soapy and slippery, don't want to put to much stress on those badger hairs) and measure it for you.

I actually ordered two Simpson Colonel brushes from Vulfix and recived both with the stickers on the "Colonel" side. I also noticed that, on this particular brush, the sticker is often put on the "X2L Best Badger" side. I suppose it's just the worker at Vulfix who decides where he/she likes to place it. Anyhow, not a problem at all, at least for me. I really love this fabulous brush!

Thanks for the reply, Marco. I think your brush looks better than their normal configuration since their normal configuration usually shows the sticker overlapping the finger ridge - a no-no in my opinion. This configuration also highlights the name of the brush, which should be front and center anyway.

Well, though I want a colonel pretty badly I'm going to wait and get my custom shavemac before buying another brush. I do foresee this one as my next simpson's

I can't over-state how much I love this handle. The knot is a great improvement over the Eagle, to my taste - slightly less dense but more fan shaped. There's some variation in knot shapes, so if you do buy one, be sure to ask the vendor if it's possible to hand-pick a more pronounced fan shape vs bulb.

And be sure to ask the vendor about the knot height! I can tell you that mine is about 45mm and pointy. Think 48mm would be more nicely shaped. Having said that, mine works well.

I just had my second shave with this brush and find it absolutely fantastic. The relatively stiff hair and shorter loft and density of the brush make a great lather. Although this brush doesn't give up the lather quite as easily as my others, I still enjoy using this one more. The handle is just the right size and has a good amount of heft to it. There was almost no badger smell when I took it out of the box, and using it without the regular 'treatment' worked just fine.

Got my Colonel X2L this week. In terms of Simpson brushes, IMO this provides one of the best value.

It is soft, densly packed, and with a nice and heavy handle.

This may become my favorite Simpson..but it would be difficult to take the spot of my beloved Tulip 1 in 3-band Super.
