Soft market for BST razors?

I agree on the soaps. I never saw the point of selling a (say) $20 soap for $15 while paying $6 to ship it. The economics don't make sense to me.
This is the main reason I've not listed any of my surplus items on the BST. The typical retails for both my equipment and shaving soaps are at or below $15. Once the shipping costs are considered, often more like a minimum of $10-$12, I'd have to price the items far too high to make any sense. Same thing for PIFs, using my $6 Lord L6 razor that I've found too aggressive, I'd have to pay more to ship it than someone could acquire it for new.

The exception is for small samples of soaps (1/2 oz) or blades (2-3) that can be sent in a regular envelope for the cost of a first class stamp. I've occasionally PIFed samples like this. A larger PIF/gift makes more sense for the types of products I use where one is willing to incur the shipping cost due to a personal dialogue or desire to really help someone out.

What really killed my participation in BST sales and purchases is the requirement to use PayPal. A few years ago PayPal started claiming that it could at its pleasure penalize users $2500 if it deemed that the user had spread 'misinformation'. Or so I understood their claims. I wanted an honest payment broker, not a self appointed moral guardian free to steal from me at will. So cancelled my PayPal account and never looked back.

After almost three years, I'm not actively looking to acquire another razor and I don't have much that I'm looking to sell.
Change the three years to eight or so and that describes my situation.....Quite satisfied with a select handful of vintage razors. I was browsing the Black Friday sales, looking at new, CNC stainless pieces, but didn't find anything that made me want to click "Buy Now".

I'll sit tight with what I have now.
And as far as blades go......got lots of them too.

edit: spell check.

I am seeing this too, and not just on the BST.

Personally, I have only been bottom feeding lightly used and very cheap razors from garage/estate sales and flea markets. Half of my razors have been $5 or less.

I saw a travel case with a split handle razor last week for $48, and couldn’t talk myself into it. I don’t need another project. Maybe, if he will go down to $40, I will buy it.

Talk me into going and getting this.

Blingo! For me the purpose of the BST is to pass on things you are no longer using to a new caretaker. You gained the experience of using the thing. Much better for it to be used than sit on a shelf or in a box not being used. Gotta price things to sell!

+1!! I enjoy using my ‘tools!’

However, I also respect the collectors who prefer things in new or almost new condition.

Shipping outside the CONUS is too expensive.
I'm in Canada.
Canadians get raked over the coals with shipping costs. And our Postal Workers are currently on strike.

But I digress....shipping for us is expensive, sometimes 30%+ of the item's purchase price before any Customs or Duty. (This isn't only on BST items, this is out of 'Bay or other retailers)

/ *itching and complaining.

This fellow Canadian totally agrees!

I shaved a fortune
I've mailed a few packages to Canada in the recent past... I can't remember the weight limit before the huge price increase..... but I can tell you... there is one. <eg>

Good stuff goes FAST.

The market overall is getting saturated. Spent a few days on Ebay, sheesh nothing but completely corroded and rusted out superspeeds going for 40-50 without a case. rusted out techs going for 50-100$.

A few high end razors, gold plasted slims with cases under 300$, a few toggles with cases and shippers under 1k$

The GOOD stuff is now hard to find, or held up for a really unreasonable price. Can find "almost unused" techs with original ripped up cardboard box going for 100$.

Ridiculous. I spent two minutes and found there are plenty at the under $15 price point.
You can barely give away a flare tip. You're not looking very hard.

Examples galore, here's one --US $4.77 2 bids Ended

I agree with Nemo.

I find pretty good/nice flare tips in the $1-$5 range very often.

The common razors, like those, are not where to spend real money. I would spend more on a pristine one with a pristine box.

Techs and travel Techs are just as common here. You could fill your house with them on a long enough timeframe. The travel Techs can be found with the original paper underneath the top cap pretty easily and for very little, often in the little zipper or snap travel sets. I still have never tried shaving with one with the tiny factory handle.

Here is a travel Tech. that I paid $15 for yesterday…

Two reasons why I recently removed the BST from my profile:
1) I don't live in the CONUS, which is a requirement for many items listed.
2) Shipping outside the CONUS is too expensive.

I tried to ship something the size of a softball to Austria as a gift. Sorry, $70USD to ship a $10 item isn't happening.

This week at the post office (USPS), I watched an older Gentleman ship two boxes of cheap Christmas gifts to grandkids in California via ground shipping for $80 x 2! 😲😡😲😡😲 Personally, I felt like the USPS ripped him off and took advantage of him.

FWIW, my local USPS folks are simply awesome so, my issue is with the policies "from above", not the local folks.

Yep, USPS tracking for me brings up a warning of NO CANADIAN DELIVERIES due to the strike even though I'm only looking for local "Black Friday" tracking.

Regarding Canadian taxes and other issues, I will just wish you guys and gals well hoping that things gain some sanity up there. The Calgary and Banff area is really nice and I hope to return someday if I can afford it!
