The lather has the thickness of, but isn't as slick as yogurt. This leeds me to believe that it's a bit dry then.

Make a few bowls of lather before your next shave, it should help.

So I took a few minutes today at work and whipped up some lather. This is pretty much exactly what I've been shaving with. Comments and criticism are greatly appreciated!

And here's the AoS brush my mother bought for me for my birthday... I like it. In my newbie opinion it's comfortable and holds watter pretty well for just being a pure badger brush. When I get my technique down I'll start asking questions about what brush I should upgrade to (I'd like to be a soap guy, but as I have only used AoS cream we'll have to see how I feel about soaps when I get some).

The minimal irritation I'm getting must be due to technique then (probably blade angle and as it's pretty much only down on my neck, and I have some strange hair growth directions at the base of my neck where I shave hence I assume some of my WTG passes are XTG accidentally).

Glad the lather looks good.

Wow, that is some primo looking lather! Perhaps I can generate the same when I get my badger brush since try as I may, my boar brush doesn't get that. Then again being a newbie, it may be my technique.

20 September 2010- 3rd DE sahve

Razor: Merkur 23C Long Handle
Cream: AoS Sandalwood
Brush: AoS Pure Badger
Blade: Derby Extra
Prep: Hot shower

Another shave yesterday, my first with proper blades. Prep was a shower. Passes: WTG, WTG, XTG. My beard was extra thick, I hadn't shaved in a few days. Long story short, no real irritation or cuts, so my technique and lather are getting where they need to be. I'm not a huge fan of the Derby blades, at least not in the razor I'm using (Long handle).

I've got a blade sampler so I'll give the Derby's a few more shots, I'm in no rush. I really wish I could keep my lather and brush warmer, that would be awesome. On the topic of brushes I'll probably throw in for something like an Edwin Jagger brush, or something in the same $50.00 price range with a nice back bone and that's about it. I like my AoS brush, it's a little scrubby and honestly I find it nice. From what I've heard about Silvertip I just don't see myself going there. I mean my AoS brush is doing wonders and feels good so something just a little nicer will be plenty fine for me. Avoiding AD's will allow me to buy some flowers for my lady, which will make me happier than 10 brushes and a large array of other things will. No really (yes... I am THAT guy).

I'm still waiting to try some soaps. I e-mailed GFT to see if they'd send out soap samples instead of creams. I haven't heard back from them yet. Honestly I'll probably just get their Sandalwood and Viloet soaps and give them a try.
