Simpson Duke 2 a shedder?

My Duke 2 in best shed a hair almost every shave for the first 10 or 12 uses. All the hairs that came out seemed to be short and kind of wrinkled/kinked looking. I assume the dense knot held in hairs that were either loose or barely held by the glue. Since then I have gone 10-12 shaves with no hair loss at all. YMMV.

Well, The Duke lost 4 more hairs today while face lathering ARKO. It does not bother me any more but I am beginning to wonder what to do if it gets worse. My fiance got me this brush and I really love it. What do you think is best if it does not stop shedding?

Contact Whipped Dog or TGN and have it re-knotted

Thanks in advance for the suggestions guys.

Are you doing anything wild with the brush like really cranking it to get the water out? Centrifuging the heck out of it? Rubbing it vigorously with the towel? Using a hair dryer or something?

I think I am hard on my brushes compared to some people (babies :001_tt2:) but nothing crazy. Here is my brush routine for the Duke.

Soak in bowl of warm/hot (but never hot enough that I couldn't put my hands in it) water for the duration of my shower. I usually prop it up so the handle is out of the water but sometimes it falls in.

Remove from water and give a few vertical pumps to rid brush of excess water. Load brush. Even if I am using a hard soap I use minimal pressure. No crazy mashing or grinding.

Lather my face with a spiral motion followed by a painting motion similar to what I have seen countless people doing on youtube.

Rinse excess lather out with warm water. A few vertical pumps, a few wrist flicks, a gentle pinch at the base of the loft and finished with a few gentle strokes across a taut towel.

No freaky s&m brush stuff as far as I can tell.

Yes sir.

Still shedding steadily. Every time I load up on a puck of soap two to three hairs are left behind. Everytime I finish shaving I rinse and dry my brush and, the next day, I run my hand over the brush and sure enough three or four more loose hairs are protruding about an extra half inch from the loft. The brush is still dense but I do not think it will last long at this rate.

It does sound excessive. Have your fiance' immediately contact the vender and request an exchange.
That or live with it.

Update: I tried shampooing and conditioning the duke and letting it dry for a few days. I combed it out too. Next shave about 15 hairs fell out. I shaved with it again today and lost 5 or 6 more. I think it is time to contact Simpson. I will have to wait til after my wedding as things are to hectic right now but I will keep you guys posted.nrv216

Congrats on the wedding! Sorry you're going through it. FWIW, take the time and do it now. Get the process started. From what I've read, it may be handled before your wedding is over. Good luck, with the brush and the wifey!

Bigbull,

Thanks for the kind words. I took your advice and emailed a customer service rep from simpson/vulfix. I guess we shall see how this goes.

My duke 1 was the same way, but eventually the ones that didn't get glued will wash out and shedding will cease. My shavemac only shed like 3 hairs and hasn't since, but the simpson was maybe a dozen or so before it stopped.
