What's new

Shaving stores in Paris?

Maison du Barbier: a good soap and easy to find in the Carrefour Supermarkets, it's the same as Plisson, it's a good british soap

Altesse: good lather, unscented, you cna find it in hairdressers

Comptoir des savonniers, in the shops of this brand, Comptoir des savonniers is a soap boutique, the shaving soap is discontinued but if you can find it is a good soap

L'othantique in some perfumeries

DON'T BUY: Saponificio Artigianale Fiorentino, that is sold in Galleries Lafayette, the lather dries in seconds.

They have discontinued Comptoir des Savonniers José :mad3:, It a very fine soap....

As for Roger & Gallet, this contained foaming agents - either SLS or SLES:thumbdown.

I wrote IK a few months ago, and they told me the soap could only be had through their website; and I know of one actual l'Occitane store in the region I visit most, and several stores where they have a l'Occitane section.

I assume you are in The Netherlands, there was a IK retailer in Amsterdam but I grabbed the last three. There has to be more retailers here.

A retailer? In Amsterdam? Where?

Still, it stands to reason IK themselves knows best to whom they sell, don't you think? Are you sure it was a retailer, and not someone who purchased soaps on his own to sell on to unsuspecting passersby?

However the ingredients are:

Sodium plamitate, stearic acid, Lauric acid, myristic acid, Sodium cocoate, Sodium lauryl sulfate :thumbdown, tetrasodium EDTA, perfume (fragrance)Algin, BHT.

as detailed here:

Durn, just like toothpaste and shampoo and a large number of other foaming items. While I appreciate your concern, I would just as soon succumb to sls as arsenic in the water, etc..

From time to time, B&Bers have posted messages saying “I’m going to Paris, where should I shop for shaving gear?” And from time to time, I have replied “Don’t waste your time looking, there is nothing here”. Well – I was completely wrong! I didn’t know about Le Comptoir de l’Homme, a marvellous boutique with a huge selection of cosmetic products for men, featuring high quality shaving supplies of all sorts. There must be close to a hundred brands from all over the world. The selection can be seen at www.comptoirdelhomme.com, which supports online shopping as well.

While there is an abundance of high-end creams and other potions, the razors are all of the multi-blade cartridge variety, proving again how the wetshaving renaissance is essentially limited to English-speaking countries.

There are no DE blades at all (luckily, excellent Gillette Bleue Extras can be bought at Monoprix, G20 and other stores).

The shop is located at 5-7 rue de Tournon, in the heart of the 6th arrondissement, near Saint Michel, Saint Sulpice, the Senate and the Odeon theatre. It’s been there for two years.

The lady who works there is knowledgeable, generous with samples, and charming (I don’t know whether she speaks English, however). She is joined by a colleague who staffs a small spa that provides facials and massages. I highly recommend visiting this shop, a kid-in-a-candy-store experience for any wetshaver.

I was full of hope seeing the title of your message.
Unfortunately, I know Comptoir de l'Homme already. They don't propose brands or types of products I'm looking for. But I notice that they propose Edwin Jagger DE on their website.
You can find some of their brands (Baxter, Eshave) at the Monop' Beauty in La Defense.

Anyway, Planète Rasoir has a better range for my taste but prices are crazy.

Finally, Internet remains the best solution for the widest range at the better price, even adding shipping.

Well, the title says it all...

I'm going to Paris in January and I hope to buy some shaving soaps over there (such as pre de provence, provence sante, Institut Karite). Does anyone here know where to buy them?

The biggest/most famous "saving shop" in Paris is Planète Rasoir : http://www.planete-rasoir.com/

For other soaps (like Tabac, C&E... not very french I know ! But thre's also L'occitane et others items) you can also go to the shops "Les Galeries Lafayette" et "Le Printemps". Shaving stuffs in this kind of shops are always next to the colognes for men.
