My 830 is my desert island brush. Badgers feel like a sponge on my face.

What's the difference between the 830 and the 820? Is it just that one is painted and the other is not or is there more to it??
I want to order one of those but prefer unpainted bristles unless of course there is a difference in quality.

I think there is a difference. Somewhere there is a post that shows the different "grades" of boar bristle Semogue uses on each of their brushes; you'll have to do a search as I don't know it is off hand.

The hair in 830 is better, IMHO. It's the same hair as the iconic 1305, so you're in for a treat.

The 820/610 knot is good too, but it's not as good as the Premium boar grade, but close.

OK, I have a AoS fine badger that does fine with creams. It is a bit floppy for loading up with soaps. I like the looks of the 830. How does it perform with shaving soaps and generally, how does it compare to a badger. I appreciate your input.

I am in the process of breaking in a Semogue 620 at the moment. So far it is a very impressive brush and the only downside seems to be that I sometimes need to go back to the puck. I guess that with a few more shaves that will change as well.

Isn't a boar brush great once broken in? I like my silver tips but something about a boar. One of the surprises for me was it was actually "soft". For some reason I conjured up a straw broom before I bought one.

DJH,

That's the one I've had for some time now & is in my top five rotations. Great brush the 620.

Thanks for the answers, makes it hard to choose....
I don't like boars to be painted to look like badgers but I think I can overcome that feeling in the case of this brush.

Loads beautifully, and delivers the lather, in my experience, better than a badger. The 830 is also my "desert island" brush

What are your thoughts on getting the 610? Are you looking for a softer brush than the 620, but since the loft is less than the 830 are you anticipating less splay? (Forgive me if I'm wrong about the difference in loft between the 830 and the 610/620.... I'm making an assumption based on memory that the lofts of the 610/620 are less than the 830.... maybe I've got it switched??).

Ben

For face lathering the 610 out-performs brushes that cost A LOT more money.

My 830 works great with soaps like MWF, Tabac, Arko, Mama Bear, etc. To me the 830 is as soft on the face as a badger, but has a more scrubby feeling vs a spongy feeling of a badger. Kind of like soaping your body with a nice terry cloth towel vs a grout sponge.

BTT for some great info on this brush.

Just ordered an Semogue 830 for my second brush / first boar / Father's Day regalo.

Seems a good choice ...
