Safety Razor Acquisition Thread.

While helping clean out our grandparents house, found two more safety razors. An English Ball End Tech and a 1970 (P4) Super 109 / Super Adjustable. Both cleaned up very well, the Tech is in great condition, mostly shiny with on a spot or two in the plating, the Super 109 has spotting on the plating but no brassing, so better condition than my Slim Adjustable, and as far as I can tell the blade gap is even enough, maybe a little more gap on one side but hard to tell by eye. I have claimed the Super 109, my brother has claimed the Tech (he enjoys his aluminium handle Tech which has the same head, so this is an upgrade in sturdiness). In my reasearch of advertisements in Australian newspapers, I never found any ads for the Super Adjustables, just for the Slim Adjustables. I have no idea whether they sold them here, or if my grandfather bought this one in the US/Canada during one of his trips overseas. There where also some blades (Gillette Super Blues, Star, Israeli Super Stainless).
Oddly enough, cleaning out my parents' house is what brought me back to DE shaving with the discovery of a 1957 Tech and a 1969 Super 109 (both of US mfr). Fortunately, I was able to keep my mitts on both razors as my brothers didn't want them. The Super is a fine razor, enjoy.

Ha! Debating on using it. Looks fun. Wonder if rhe motor still works as this is from 1988.

1951 (W2) Black Tip “40s style” Superspeed.

If you were the one whom I outbid by 1 cent… sorry.

The razor is in nice shape, and I liked the first shave with a fresh GSB blade even more than the all-metal 1953 40s style that I also have - this one feels a little milder yet equally efficient.

This came a week ago or so, but I forgot to post it. I've had two shaves with it and my initial impressions are that this is not a very efficient razor that can be used with a wide range of angles, but it's optimal angles are shallow and neutral, while it's efficiency is highly decreased when used at a steep angle. What I like about it is the fact that it's very gentle and very comfortable razor. Definitely a razor that it's meant for a daily use and not something for those who shave once or twice a week.

YINTAL BLACK RAZOR 5.jpg

I forgot about this Chinese Yintal black closed comb razor order - it arrived today - in a word - bargain - was only £11 all inc.

Now I have 3 identical shaped ones but in ceramic-coated brass look, a blue metallic one and this matt black one.

I swapped heads to a Yaqi flipside - closed and open comb on one matching matt black head - so job`s a good `un.

I`ll take it on a test drive with my 24 month old Syrian 50% and 70% laurel oil / olive aleppo soap one night this week and I`ll be in heaven shaving in the bath with my eyes shut listening to Iraqi oud music !

THREE COLOURED RAZORS.jpg

This one is the same but different - I didn`t notice at first that the middle matt black one had a shorter handle; but I prefer that; it`s a different brand but I don`t mind in the slightest.

They were all bargains anyway - that`ll do me.

TWO FAVOURITE RAZOR COMBOS 1.jpg

TWO FAVOURITE RAZOR COMBOS 2.jpg

TWO FAVOURITE RAZOR COMBOS 3.jpg

These are two of my favourite razor combos now - mix and match - love it !

Left one is a DScosmetic Pioneer Gr5 Titanium handle with a Yaqi chrome-plated zamak Flipside open/closed head on it - I don`t need my eyes open to know what side of the head I`m using !

I forgot what the right one is; no idea what two makes they are; head was bought separately; it wasn`t expensive and I think it scrapes just fine.

Please help me identify my latest acquisition. I can’t find it on Mr Razor or anywhere online for that matter.

I see no date codes or identifying marks of any kind other than”GILLETTE” stamped in the handle.

I’m no Bakelite expert but the little circles on the blade stabilizer slots (4th photo) suggest to me that this is injection molded plastic.

Can anyone shed any light or provide any info on this?

It's this
proxy.php

Most likely for civilian use, due to colour.

Note the bare bones utility case it came in originally with some kind of treated fabric (?) blade bank.

I believe these are very efficient shavers. I've never seen the white one before.

Nice score!

Wow, a lucky find! Haven't seen one yet but I do own the Rotbart, although it has a metal cap.
It's a Rotbart no.15 head shape and mine is a great shaver -- a big CONGRATS!

Thank you and thanks so much for the help! I was convinced it was more recent than ‘40 being plastic. Mystery solved.

Where did you find this photo? I can’t find it on Mr Razor.

Oh wow, that Rotbart is very similar indeed and you’re bang on; that head is identical. Thanks for the “congrats”!

I am not sure about the handle and case but the English long slot base plate turns up on the bay fairly often in open comb format, that said I have never seen one in SB format so your example could be quite a rarity. Here is my open comb long slot that I sold to another B&B member.
