Review on BIC Chrome Platinum DE Razor Blade

hopefully I did a good job. Here’s the review.

Made in: Greece 🇬🇷
Material/coating: Polymeric. Chrome Platinum, Teflon.
How Sharp I believe they are: very sharp. Can cause cuts if not careful.
Max number of shaves I can get 4 shaves with one blade. This may be better for a one and done or two and done.
Bleeders?: second and fourth with a shave of a blade, yes a few.
Where I got the blades: a friend gifted me
Value for the money?: meh. For me not really
Cutting feedback: good.
Good for: anyone! Uncertain but there may be better choices out there.
For proprietary razor?: no

First impressions: first shave a bleeder or two. So these blades are very sharp. They do cut the hairs well. Not much else to say.

Final thoughts: an ok blade. Not fond of nicks and cuts. But I suppose they are good enough to buy a box of for everyday use. Just not for me. I have better blades I like.

The first shave or two are always tricky, use it in a mild razor. However, then they become smooth and one blade shaves me for a couple of weeks (at least), the max. what I've gotten is 3 weeks. After the shave isn't close enough for me, cannot get absolute BBS

For the price they are more than OK, imo, considering the fact I get 2-3 weeks with a one

Your review has inspired me to re-visit my "stash" of Bic CP blades. I've only got 100 (minus a few that I have used) and it's been a while.

The Bic blades have a reputation of being on the sharp end of the curve, and while I'm mildly curious about the weepers, I'm now more curious about the longevity. I expect to get at least 5-6 great shaves from any brand name blade.

Wish me luck. 🙂

The best blade I tried I got 8 shaves. I did not want to push it further

Good review.
I am new to DE shaving and have a sample pack of blades I'm trying. Looking at my list I see I wrote that the Bic blades caused nicks and burns.
sorry to hear. On a side note, first time I tried a permasharp brand blade (the one with the old timey guy face picture) it was too aggressive.

Like in my first reply above highest with my best blade was 8 Shaves. Idk how some get a week or more! :O

I got 5 shaves myself off the BIC Astor and this is reputedly the same blade just with a different coating. I'll probably get some of these sooner or later. Many good reviews in the archives for the BIC Chrome Platinum.
Never tried Bic Astor. :O

As you might recall I don't push blades very far these days, but when I was more interested in that I found that Bics degraded fairly slowly and predictably compared to others I was trying. I'll be interested to hear what your experience is.
my apologies, but a full experience, it’s going to wait a long while. I hope to order a box of 20x 7 o’clock yellow tucks. Plus more to try. in fact i put a fresh 7 o'clock yellow blade on yesterday morning.

Shave #1 is in the books.

As expected, a wonderful 3-pass shave, DFS+ with no blood or irritation. Really fantastic.

I'm going to use this same combination for the next 4-5 shaves to see what happens, though I don't expect anything less than the same as today.

Regarding weepers:

None today, but not uncommon for me (with any blade) to have an occasional dot of blood, especially upper and lower lip area...so unless I see an abnormal number, I usually fault my technique. .

You got the blades for free but consider them poor value for money?

I recently tried these blades and wish I discovered them sooner. Their reputation for being almost as efficient as Feathers is deserved. They also have excellent durability, as the blade sharpness testing done by @helicopter has shown.

The only weird thing for me is that they leave my skin feeling slightly itchy. I don't get that with Feathers or other sharp blades. I know these have a whole lot of different coatings and I wonder if it is a reaction of some kind. But it isn't a problem. The wipe-away-stubble-like-it-ain't-no-thing factor of these blades means I can happily look past it.

@gpjoe can I ask, what is the handle length of your Overlander? I just ordered one with the same configuration (i.e. without the Overlander handle) and I am trying to visualise what it will look like when it arrives.

Today on the 7 o’clock yellow blade, I scraped my cheek by accident and sliced a ribbon like string of top layer skin off my cheek the width of the blade, and the length of the blade. It really did not hurt. But how the heck I did that idk hahaha. Good thing i did not use alcohol based aftershave. (I used my alcohol free Ben Franklin aftershave tonic)

I was afraid it would be a problem. my apologies. It was more of an opinion. I will from now on refrain from commenting on that part of the review if the blade(s) have been given to me as a gift.

Hey, comment on it if you like. It's your review! I just thought it was a funny take. I think that given how sharp and durable they are these are actually very good value, but that is subjective. You are entitled to your opinion!

Funny you should ask.

I loved the Guilloche handle on my Christopher Bradley, which I had sold, and thought that was a 3.5", so that's what I ordered with my Overlander. I was wrong...the CB had a shorter handle, which I prefer...arrrgh.

Short answer: the handle pictured is 3.5".

Which length did you order?

Ouch.

The only time I've done that is using a shavette with half a DE blade.

Hope you heal up soon. 🙂👍

3.25"

You are confirming what I thought. The 3.5 is the size that looks right to me - the proportions seem correct. But I am gambling that the 3.25 will feel right in my hand. Fingers crossed.
