Sending off the slide today for milling. The long wait begins!
The slide is in limbo somewhere between milling and refinishing. Stated turn around time is 4 to 6 weeks and it's been about 3 weeks.Did they ever get your slide milled?
Or did the post manage to delay it.....
Congrats on getting the slide back! Looks great! Can’t wait to hear about your next range report!!Slide is back from Maple Leaf Firearms and the RMR is mounted nice and low. Previous 10-8 rear sight will not be usable, will replace with a taller rear sight soon. The 10-8 front sight is of course also too short, but in the meantime, if I can see it, I know I need to adjust my grip/wrist flexion to find the red dot. It will of course be replaced so that I have functional co-witnessing BUIS in the near future.

could have just bought a 1911 and saved lots of time and effort.
I have a couple 1911s, and several other handguns. What's your point? Do you have something useful to contribute?
Wasnt it Cooper who said, if a handgun cant fill the role right out of the box, you need a rifleAs wonderful as 1911s are, that would not fill the same anticipated role and I was trying to optimize a gun that I already had.
Good point. But all of my 1911s have required tinkering. I took my 1911 to two classes at Gunsite while Jeff was still the primary instructor. Most non-custom 1911s need something done to them, IMHO. I believe it was Clint Smith who said something like "the handgun is used to fight your way back to the rifle that you should have had with you in the first place" IIRC.Wasnt it Cooper who said, if a handgun cant fill the role right out of the box, you need a rifle
If i was bored and wanted to do that 27 yard shot across a crowded church. I would grab either my 629 iwth a 5" barrel or mly 357. I havent played with my colt 1911 past 10 yards. Been trying to figure out the right grip for me. To many bad suggestions on the colt forum.“…could have just bought a 1911 and saved lots of time and effort.”
Such insight…thx.
Except:
1. Stated use case at the very beginning of the thread prioritizes reliability, capacity, concealbilty and accuracy under adverse conditions v. An 8 shot non RDS platform.
2. Cooper’s affinity for the 1911 platform was far more fluid in his upper level classes and/or if you were issued a different weapons system.
3. Quotes about fighting one’s way back to a rifle are always quite pithy. The problem with them is that in the day to day life we find ourselves in, we are going to be too far from said rifle out in the world, “in real life” unless you are one of those nimrods who open carry’s a rifle slung on your back. Even carrying a “pistol/SBR” out of a back pack deploys far slower that a pistol from the waistline.
4. I would note that the Gunsite endorsed and branded RDS Pistol sold at the Gunsite Proshop as we speak is a similarly configured Glock pistol in 9mm.
5. And on the off chance you have to make a 27 yrd shot across a crowded church sanctuary and you think that shot is easier with a non RDS 1911 than with an RDS 9mm Glock (presuming both pistols are zeroed with the ammo in the gun) you are objectively wrong.
What the heck are you talking about?! Like you can pick a weapon at random to suit whatever "what if" scenario. I'm restricted to reality, where I have one gun to cover any reasonable scenario that might arise in protecting worshipers in church. I'm also restricted to a modern 9mm service grade pistol, no magnum revolvers. I also wouldn't be making a 27 yd shot across a crowded sanctuary. If i was bored and wanted to do that 27 yard shot across a crowded church. I would grab either my 629 iwth a 5" barrel or mly 357.
