Red Tip Equivalent

I always found the 40's aristocrat similiar to the red tip.

Absolutely agree. That's one reason I sold my Aristocrat; I have a red tip and they are so similar. The other reason is the Gillette's gold wash finish sucks. It's hard to find gold finish Gillettes in execllent condition.

Over the course of the last year or so I've determined (through much experimentation) a couple of things

1. I prefer Boar brushes
2. I like Italian style soft soaps
3. I can't find anything that shaves nearly as good as my Gillette Red Tip

this leads me to ask the following question...

Are there any fellow Red Tip users out there who've tried a modern razor or a vintage razor that's close to the Red Tip?

thanks for your time as always

Phil

It's been a few weeks since I got the Red Tip and I already traded it for a Merkur Progress. For my money, the Progress is a WAY better shaver. I found the Red Tip too mild on my cheeks and too aggressive on my neck and I still could not get a good effortless BBS shave from it. EJ DE89 shaved me better than the Red Tip also. Same goes for Super Speeds. Wonderful razors, just not as good shavers as the EJ DE89 and Progress. Progress is pretty much THE razor to try for most people. I think its range of adjustments and the quality of head design makes for a razor that most people can find awesome. So, if you want to try something different and IMO better than the Red Tip, give Progress a try. I also hear many good things about the new Cadets. The TTO Cadet is supposed to be more aggressive than Red Tip. It also sells for $26 and is brass construction.

I also enjoy boar brushes a lot. But I can;t say I prefer them to badgers. I like both and since they so different from each other, it really depends on my mood what I reach for. I recently did two vintage brush restores and instead of badger I installed Omega boar knots into these handles. The brushes came out amazingly well. I absolutely love them. Here is the Ever-Ready 100T and here is the Stanley Home Products Bakelite.

Enjoy!

I have a Red Tip that arrived at the beginning of the month. However, I have been shaving exclusively with my Fatboy during Fatboy February. I am very much looking forward to trying out the Red Tip. I think it would be difficult, perhaps impossible, to find a modern razor that does the same job as a Red Tip with the same quality construction (no zamak) in the same price range.

I received a Red Tip today and looking for comparison's to other razors like the 1952 SS, 1971 black handled SS as well as some modern ones like the Muhle M89/EJ DE89L, iKon Standard or Weber PH.
