What's new

Recommend an Omega boar brush for face lathering.

Recommend an Omega brush that is good for face lathering. I know there are many but I’m looking for one with a short loft.
I tried a Semogue model 610. Now I would like to try an Omega equivalent.

The Beehive @ivan_101 which No. is it? could work as well as all of the small diameter entry level 4-5 Euro brushes.

A great Omega boar which is suitable if you like a low loft and scrubby feel is the 10290 'Baby Pro'. It feels light and insubstantial, but once broken in it works very well.

One of my favorite smaller Omegas is the 11137 with ash wood handle. The knot is about 24mm with 55mm loft. Might be a little tall for you, but it is still scrubby.

An excellent larger Omega is the Omega Jade boar sold by Connaught Shaving in the UK. It is around 27mm with 53mm loft.

I am completely in favor of the 11137 Omega. It's a joy to use.

G'day mate,

Well, up to this point you have received seven replies and seven different opinions. You know what they say about opinions. Same goes for blades, razors, soaps, etc. on the forum, YMMV.

I do not understand why you have limited yourself to Omega brushes.

The best boar brush for face lathering for YOU is the one that you create for yourself. Purchase both a handle that suits your fancy and a nice boar knot. If purchased from the same supplier, tell them NOT to set the knot. Set the knot into the handle with a loft of 50-52mm using a tad (not too much) of clear silicone seal to temporarily hold it in place. Any descent boar knot will need a break-in period. Once it is broken-in you can easily twist and pull the knot out and add a coin or two if 50-52mm is too short/scritchy for you.

Because the OP wanted to try an Omega boar? He asked for suggestions, so we gave him a few. What's the harm?

Two question's?

What is Wood?

How do you treat to keep looking NEW, Orange or Lemon Oil?

It is ash wood. It's a fairly hard wood traditionally used for tool handles and similar things.

It doesn't really need treatment. Whatever they applied at the factory is pretty good. I just wipe mine down with a paper towel after using it and set it out to dry.

You could probably use any finishing oil made for furniture if it needed touching up.

Yes, the description indicates it's made of ash wood. Over the past six months since I purchased it, I haven’t applied any oil to it. For maintenance, I simply brush it lightly under warm water using the same toothbrush I use to clean my razor, roughly every two weeks. That seems to be enough to remove some of the soap scum, which does indeed build up rather quickly on the black plastic ring and around the raised wooden ring.

Thank you all for your help. I may try the Omega 10290. Pretty short loft.
