Ready to step forward: Open Comb, Slant Bar, or Mergress

I was dubious about using an open comb when I started using it, but what a shave!

I have both an Old type and a NEW, and the old type is pretty aggressive. Not dangerous or unforgiving, but aggressive. It demands concentration, but it has no problem getting BBS, at least for me. The NEW is slightly less aggressive, but oh so smooth.

Two of my top three razors (in results of shaving quality) are vintage open combs. They are the 1930's Aristocrat and the New Standard. Both are sensational shavers.

Thanks again all for the great responses! I'm glad I posted this; it's making me give much more serious thought to trying an OC. For some reason I had it in my head I'd go slant, but now I'm getting pretty curious about the OC experience.

I voted slant because I didn't see the futur as an option .

I like my slant a lot but the futur gives me smoother irritation free shaves, ymmv.

I used an HD exclusively for two years. Whilst a great razor, I felt I was ready to move on. I was gifted a Gillette NEW last week and fell in love with it almost instantly. For mine, the weight and balance are spot on. The open comb design just seems "right" somehow; I really like the way the teeth feel against the skin too, allowing more lather to remain after a stroke. I don't see myself using the HD any time soon.
