RazoRock Superslant views, reviews, and shaves

L1 or l1+ for sure. For daily shaves l1 is probably better though. Think of a slanted overlander kinda feeling with no drag. Most days I use the l1. But if I miss a day or a few days the l1+ is better. If I'm shaving off a whole beard the l1++ performs wonderfully. For me personally I'm not a huge fan of the l2 or l3. Obviously they are similar but they aren't as comfortable for me ans the l1++ can do anything the other two main baseplates can for me. I loved the wunderbar. But now that I have options for slants, I don't want to return to its level of aggression. Hence barely breaking out the l2 or l3s.

Thank you for your feedback!
I hope you had a safe return home 😀

As it happens, our first night in that spot was mostly dominated by the dog wanting to bark at everything once she was back in the trailer. :) Braver than anything, as long as it's safe...

But we decided to stick around another day. We were there, after all, and it felt like the last outing for the season. Wonder of wonders, she just laid down and went to sleep after a quick "buff" at another dog in the area. Plenty of evidence of bears wandering around, but I guess she was tired from keeping us up all night earlier. :)

So we had a safe return the next day, thanks!

Thank you for the info on the current and future L1 plates, @Sethology

The L3SB practically needs a neutral angle, and I’ve recently been gelling with as shallow as possible. The L3SB will do that, but it feels like the whiskers on my right sideburn will grow back before I reach my left sideburn. It’s probably easy as pie and I’m just dumb and talking myself into another accessory.

For me it wasn't dumb after I came into possession of it. The l1 feels totally different

I'm pretty sure the question has been answered, but still... 😎

Am I right to assume that the core difference of the base plates of one given level (say Level 2 plates) is not the efficiency but the blade feel of the base plates? So is it correct to state L2SB and L2++SB would share the same level of efficiency, but the L2++SB offered more bladefeel?

Paging the experts @Tanuki and @Old Hippie. Thanks!
I'm embarrassed not to have chimed in before now. I do not have a ready answer to the question. I also have a rather eccentric assortment of SS base plates:
SB L3 (out on loan) and L3++ (used it tonight)
OC L1++ and L2++

So I am unable to do an SB L3/L3++ comparison at the moment. From memory I would say the SB L3++ steps up both blade feel and efficiency but between the arrival of the OC plates and the SB L3 loan, the SB plates have been on a long hiatus. And now OCtober.

Just had an interesting email exchange with Italian barber. So with the RR SS, the levels are based on aggressiveness (we can all read, I think). The aggressiveness is based on gap, it doesn't seem like blade exposure. They also said that the ++OC gap is same as ++. Also that there is no overlap in gaps between the different levels. So an L1++OC gap IS IN FACT less than an L2 etc.

Any handle compatibility issues? I noticed the handle has to fit inside the head base.

That's a question I have raised as well some time ago. In the meantime I got a L3SB which provides a very efficient and gentle enough shave on my face. Really enjoyable.

If you get along well with the G37 it will be the case with the L3SB, too.

But...

I haven't done a side by side shave with both razors but I have the strong feeling that the G37 feels a bit easier on the skin (slightly less blade feel with the G37). And the L3SB feels a tad more efficient, too. Not by much, but a bit.

If was forced to choose a SuperSlant base plate in order to replicate the G37 shaving experience I'd likely go with L2+SB or L2++ SB.

Perhaps @sakaltras has followed up with investigating the topic, since he raised a similar question on the Merkur 37c.

Or perhaps @Phoenixkh might do a side by side shave with his SuperSlant L2++SB and the Merkur 37c... Take one for the team, Kim. Go slanted! 😜

Cheers!
Hi, I'm trying to understand how this SuperSlant is classified, do you say that an L2++ is similar to a 37c?

Hi, I'm trying to understand how this SuperSlant is classified, do you say that an L2++ is similar to a 37c?

Every SS baseplate I've tried is more worry free and comfortable, with a more rigid blade feel than any of my new (now sold) 37C, my vintage 37, my German 37, or the Merkur 36 I used for decades (given to eldest son).

What I can't do is fine tune the Merkur comparison to a particular base plate. I think anything at or above my L1++OC will match or exceed Merkur slant efficiency.

For me, the only point where the Merkur slant head beats the RR SS is the lower/less bulky head profile.

Generally, I'm sure the range 2 to 2++ is a great place to shave, but the higher 'aggressions' do not scare me. I have not tried the 3++OC but my 3++SB is safe and solid. Very different from my Wunderbars. Or the Merkur Superslant.

No. I'm still looking for the SuperSlant equivalent of the German37.
All I know is that the L3SB is not that sibbling (more blade feel, more efficiency).

The rest is still in the "best guessing" department... I'll shoot IB an email and ask for their advice.

Quindi mi consigliate un SS L3++?
La L3 normale è morbida?
Sono per rasoi di tipo BB

Working on my Italian here :biggrin1:

My best RR Superslant advice, tuned to what I believe are your standards:

For an experienced, every day shaver I would recommend the L3. If you often shave 3 days or more of growth, go to the L3++ SB, or possibly the OC versions L2++ or L3++. I am an OC guy, but that is just based on long-time habits and the resulting prejudices.

By "Sono per rasoi di tipo BB" I think you mean you want a very close, 'baby butt' shave. I think any of these plates will deliver that.

All that said, I just got an email from Italian Barber announcing a limited re-stock of Wunderbars. Definitely a baby butt razor with plenty of blade feel. It requires full attention or blood may be shed. Sport shaving at its finest. I'm keeping mine.
