What's new

I saw the “I love Christmas” post and was gonna post a negative reply but thought it might be better to post it here: I abhor Christmas. The period from the end of Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve is the worst time of the year. I dread its coming and celebrate its departure. It annoys me on every level. I can’t stand it and can’t understand why anyone older than 10 can. This year we are having “company” for Christmas so it will be worse than usual. Time to break out the liquor.
As ever Q, I'm appreciating your frank opinionating. Enjoyment, joy, is sort of like love. It's not something one gets, it's something one does. There is some discernment. If you're struggling with the joy of Christmas, maybe start with the solstice. It can be enjoyed, as a thing, without any human trappings at all, if one chooses.

I will also be breaking out the liquor. There is a wintery cocktail I discovered a few years back that I will be revisiting, on the solstice. Cheers.

How about for the love of wife, children and grandchildren?

I'm totally apathetic about Christmas. I find it amusing how most folks get all bowed up about a time that's supposed to be filled with "joy" and "good will." lol
As far as cell phones go, I use mine for phone calls, and don't carry it with me. Gotta have some kind of phone. Super cheapo prepaid plan, cheaper than a landline.
Get a kick out of how these phones are like a leash for most people.

Thank goodness the wife and I got out of the gift-buying racket. Unless you have little ones or grandkids, I advise all of my B&B brethren to do the same, particularly with shaving stuff; don’t feed the Shaving-Industrial Complex.

That I understand, my daughter is 48 and my grandchildren are 23 and 27. Not as exciting as when they were younger but my wife and I still love it
