What's new

Please recommend non-aggressive, single edge razor

Just checking, because even the GEM packaging doesn’t say PTFE in the picture

Here's a photo of the AccuTec version:

Just “COATED” then. Thanks!

AccuTec does not go into a lot of details about the coating, just marketing gibberish.

AccuTec said:
AccuForge's MicroCoat blade enrichment technology adds a layer of protection for each blade helping maintain a sharp effective edge over multiple uses.

I think that means a combination of metallic and PTFE coating, since that is common practice for stainless razor blades since the 1960s. I could not swear to it in a court of law.

Personna used to say their GEM shaving blades had a PTFE coating. I think that's why we still use that terminology here.

Makes perfect sense. I noticed the govets.com place still has the older GEM that has morphed into accurech

Just a guess, but I'd say the odds of getting the older, discontinued GEM/Personna packaging box of these when you order online is slim to none. Even if the product picture online is marked GEM, what you'll receive will be AccuTec Pro, which is produced on the same machinery on the same settings.

When I first started getting into gem razors @Ron R GEM Comparison Table / Guide was invaluable.

I picked out some of my milder gem razors out of my collection I have experience with. I lined them what I consider medium to mild (left to right)
1. Gem Micromatic bullet tip is the mildest of the Micromatics to me its medium aggression
2. Gem Heavy Flatop/G bar is on on edge of mild to medium
3. Feather Weight V1, to me is similar to to the Gbar, but my V1 is in rough shape
4. Gem Push Button is a small step down
5. Feather Weight V2 to me is mild
6. Gem Contour 2 is the last of the gem razors and the most mild
On the gem blade side, all I use nowadays is GEM Personna PTFE blades long lasting and smooth.
As for Schick injectors the adjustable m1 is my favorite, 1-8 awesome razor. Also the type L are nice and mild.
I'd like to add a Feather Weight and Schick adjustable to my collection. Nice photo.

Ironically, Connaught Shaving in the UK has them with no VAT, for 16 GBP, around $20 per 100 pack. You do have to pay shipping, so you may as well take advantage of their lower prices on soaps or creams, etc. and get them at the same time. My orders have taken about a week to arrive.

Yeah, I like Connaught. I didn't want a hundred blades and they offer that cool 10-blade dispenser at a very good price; even though they're quite far from me.

even the different packaging has the same part number on it, so that’s helpful
