Pipe Of The Day (POTD)

Up this evening: KG Sutliff VaPer 2.0 in a Falcon with nice big artisan bowl; Arango Balkin Supreme in a Savinelli 320 KS Alligator Brown. Smoky Black on the side.

This was last night, forgot to hit the 'Post' button. Getting old I guess.

Having some HH Old Dark Fired in a pipe I've neglected for a while, the lightly-bent part-carved Colossal billiard. Fifteen minutes of that muscular stuff is plenty to start the day with. I'm thinking of bringing the half-full bowl with me and smoking more in the open air with a latte-to-go in a historic neighborhood not far from here later.

I've read that coiling up a pipe cleaner and popping it into the bowl works to keep the leaf from falling out; anybody try it?

Part Two of my bowl of HH Old Dark Fired: a quick smoke outside a coffee shop after finishing my errands. Man, this stuff -- Does it get stronger toward the bottom of the bowl? Only ten minutes' smoke and I got the spins. Note to self: No more ODF by itself. Mix it with something milder and in a smaller bowl --!
I find most non aromatics intensify the further into the bowl i go, generally speaking

Currently 74F here in the RGV, pretty nice smoking weather. Up this evening: Greve Gilbert Hamiltons Blandning in a Danish Stanwell 185 Brass Band; Comoy's Cask No. 12 in a Savinelli 111 KS Straight Grain. Accompanied by my new Christmas ash tray. The card said it was from my dogs. They are good boys. Smoky Black on the side.

I just took one of my cobs out to the garage with C&D Autumn Evening.

My first time trying AE. I got 1 ounce from P&C and the smell was very light, and felt more dry than most tobaccos I’ve tried (almost all aromatics). From the reviews I read and vids I watched on AE led me to believe it was gonna fill my room with maple and would need to be dried before packing it. I must say my experience was the opposite. Much lighter scent and felt dry. Didn’t get much flavor.

Also, the cob I packed typically smokes for 45+ minutes, but I got through this one in around 30. Even being dry, I needed 5 or more relights which is more than normal. I use the breath method and still tend to have a hot bowl with most smokes but I smoked this one lightly and it never got very hot so I don’t think I was going too hard on it.

Got me scratching my head.

Yeah, I can see that. I had a similar experience with AE as well. Bought a couple ounces from Smokingpipes years ago from their bulk. The smoke just didn’t scratch that itch for me.

On a side note, not certain how P&C warehouses their bulk blends but my suggestion is to purchase and ounce from SP since they are the online store for C&D. Might gets better quality product direct from the maker versus from P&C.

Thanks for the tip! Is there a way to bring life back to the ounce I have? I heard an apple slice in dry tobacco can resurrect it, but that probably wouldn’t bring back the flavor, I assume.
