Pearl Flexi v2 brass cnc milled adjustable razor is out!

I had let my beard grow out to 4 days expecting to get an original Gibbs today, but it is still in the land of USPS so I pulled out my Pearl Flexi to see if it could handle this thick wirey grey beard.
Lathered up my ETHOS Peppermint which is awesome on a hot evening. Loaded up a 3rd use Gillette 7 O’Clock Black and set it to level 6.
WTG pass was super smooth and mowed down most of my growth without any issues.
ATG at level 4 and I was done with a granddaughter approved smooth face.
ETHOS post shave serum and my face feels great.
I must admit I had my doubts that the Flexi could handle this kind of shave, but I must admit it gave a fantastic shave. I am impressed!
Congrats on the Gibbs! Now you know you have to give us your thoughts on how it compares with your other adjustable razors right?!

The Flexi continues to impress! I have an over 55 year old’s course, gray beard and am normally a daily shaver. Well the Flexi, loaded with a new Feather blade, knocked down 5 days growth without a problem. Feathers are usually not my favorite, but the Flexi let it do it’s job uncharacteristically smooth and without a hint of blood or irritation. I started with it opened all the way up for first pass, progressively dialing down to 4 by the last pass. Ended with some very minor touch ups on my neck at setting 2. I’m sorry several folks had issues with their razors. Thankfully mine has been a real winner, especially for the price point.

The lower adjustable plate is crooked. The probe does not go into the slot in the 4th corner (at the very end of the video)

Can’t say I’m surprised to see this. I believe most Pearl razors are likely to have some amount of this, and perhaps other issues like the ones I had, going on despite comments to the contrary, since most people aren’t trained or accustomed to close inspection for defects.

The fact is that during mass production (at a quality facility) it would be rare to have only a very small number of wildly out of tolerance issues like these - either you going to get really tiny variances, or you’re going to get a whole production run seriously messed up before someone notices.

Alternately, you might have a production system that just isn’t capable of producing and assembling precision machine parts, or owners/operators who simply don’t care to do so. Either way the end result is an unusually high number of poorly made razors going out the door and into customers hands.

It’s a shame really because this could be a good razor if they’d either get it right, or at least stop shipping out the defective ones, assuming they do produce some without defects.

Some people seem to be happy with the shaves they are getting from their Flexi razors and I am not discounting their experiences - a razor with small enough flaws in certain areas can be capable of providing a good shave. It would just be nice if folks didn’t have to gamble on whether or not they were going to get a “good one” when purchasing a Flexi razor.

Got this mail from shaving time 2 days ago apparently they are talking about a V3 here it sure looks like a decent adjustable some say its on par with the Rex ambassador if that's the case I might take the plunge

From the linked page above:

“There where razor aliment issues with V 1 & 2 but I can report no issues with manufacturing run 3 (V3) onwards, our customers love this razor”

Well there have certainly been reports, and pictures, of problems with he is calling V3/V4, so he doesn’t seem to be up to speed on the situation. Proceed at your own risk.

First shave with my second flexi today. A great shave. Compared to my first flexi i have to dial in half a number less than with my first flexi from the third batch. Over all a great shaver.

Received mine directly from Pearl, 5th phase, the serial number is A2109xx, and everything seems ok, with and without blade, tomorrow i will inspect it more carefully when shaving.
The shipping was with UPS and it only takes 3 days from India to Portugal, really fast.
They included some gifts in the package also, very nice Pearl [emoji6]

So If I understand clearly, the shave from the latest batch is different from the earlier batches ?

Not different, just like a merkur progress, the numbers aren't exactly in the same position than the dial. My first starts at 1.5 and the newer one at 0.7 fully closed.

If I make any other observations I'll post.

So far I'm enjoying very much the Pearl Flexi, a very well made razor, very enjoyable and easy to use, and the most important, the results are awesome, always very close shaves, I'm using mostly setting 3 or 4 for WTG and 2 for ATG and 1.5 for touch ups, with a bear growth of 36-48h, typically I only do 2 passes and touch ups.

For comparison, I have several safety razors, namely RR Gamechanger 0.84, Edwin Jagger 3one6, DE89, Rockwell 6C, Henson AL13 Medium, Muhle R41, Fatip Lo Storto OC, just to mention some of them, and I believe so far, only with 3 uses, that I only achieve this kind of shaves with the Muhle R41, but the Muhle R41 is by far more aggressive, what I nice razor that Pearl have made.

So far my three SOTDs with the Pearl Flexi, on the first two I'm using a Nacet blade, on the third one the Indian Gillette Wilkinson Sword.

The Pearl Flexi v2 on setting 6 is efficient, but not as highly efficient as I thought it would be wide open. On the plus side, The Flexi was smooth, not harsh or aggressive, even when running wide open. :)

Nice razor!
