Parker SR 1 Shavette

Looking at a Parker SR1 to add to the stable, price is right and probably travels better than my straights (Dovo Redbone, Wapinieca)
Thoughts?

If I was buying a Parker today I’d probably go with one of their push type models, the PTB or PTW. I personally found that loading the blade and making sure it’s aligned properly was a bit easier with the push type. Much more importantly is that the face of the razor is thinner and it’s easier to maneuver the edge of the razor blade. Another thing to consider is that the handle on the SR1 is going to be heavy; some people prefer this, but it can add extra pressure to your shave or torque the blade into your skin if you’re not holding it firmly enough.

A Parker was my first shavette. Still have it, as a matter of fact, but no longer shave with it. I really struggled with 1/2 DE blades. That razor, and a pack of Feathers I no longer shave with, live in the kitchen now where it is used to slash bread loaves before baking.

Works like a champ for that, and I would strongly encourage any baker to buy one instead of those sissy little lames they sell in the cooking stores.

For shaving, well, let's just say I can't recommend it personally. If you must do 1/2DE, then pop for a Focus Slim Al (which I've used and liked) or for just a tad more cash, an Irving Barber Company shavette (which I have not used, yet). Upside on the Irving is it's built to take 1/2DE, injector or AC blades so you can use whatever you like best.

If you're concerned about the weight of the handle, IBC just came out with a kamisori version of their shavette. Looks kinda quirky but I imagine it's a good'un.
