palmolive Shave Stick

I thought they stopped using tallow in the newer formulatioin? None of the UK based websites I found list the ingredients. Are there any UK sites selling Palmolive sticks which are US friendly with regard to shipping?

Here is UK website that sells them. Shipping seems to be very reasonable. I don't know if these are tallow based or not, I have been thinking about ordering them but wanted to know if anyone tried this website or not. Did anyone try this website?

I got a Euro stick as a PIF (thanks Luc!) and they're brilliant. For face lathering I just wet my face and the stick and go to work. My stubble is rough enough to get a good deposit without soaking!

I also tried the "fist bowl" method and was well pleased. Wrap your thumb and forefinger around the exposed end of the soap so that it sits just below the edge of your fingers and scrub away with the brush. Quick, easy and it needs no extra equipment.

We haven't had shave sticks in the States in years. I do know that in Australia there is a stick that is sold as both Mennen and Palmolive that is supposedly not as good as the EU version. From pictures I have seen, it is green but a bit darker than the EU version.

I did a test yesterday morning: left side Euro, right side Aussie. I should post a proper comparison, but apart from being a little more work, the non-tallow Aussie soap works exactly the same. It's a little harder, a little darker and very slightly translucent, as you'd expect a vegetable oil based soap to be.

Actually if I remember correctly Luc has made a pictoral tutorial featuring Aussie palmolive and which mentions Euro-palmolive as being easier to lather. I concur with this opinion. Luc piffed me an aussie palmolive (thanks Luc) and you can get a very decent lather out of it but it is much more fussy about soap to water ratio than the palmolive.

Finally, just to be clear the 0.95 € Palmolive I get in Munich is obviously the "2.2 gut" one. Munich is a pretty expensive town so next time I am in some small town in former East-germany I will see what I can get it for.

I've got several shave sticks that I use as sticks, and have pretty well settled on Arko as my economy travel solution. As for Palmolive, I grated it into a mug. It works excellently, and is a good value, but is not my favorite smell, sort of a spicy detergent aroma. Probably won't buy any more after I use it up, and use up the other unopened stick that I bought. These things probably last a long time, though.

There's a soap for everybody, and this one might be the soap for you.

I picked up a Palmolive stick, amazing performance and pleasant scent, all for a few dollars, win win in my book. It will be my go to travel soad for sure.

I think I"ll give a try grating a couple of sticks into a small bowl and give it a whirl.:001_smile

Although I had such an easy prep experience with the stick and lathering on my face that I may just keep going with that in the end after I've tried.

My first year of shaving was primarily VDH Deluxe, which I am a fan of. However the past few months I've been playing with a lot of new soaps, Tabac. Mamabear's and Cella in the small red bowl and like them all.

They're all great, but I'm finding that I'm doing more shaving at the gym, so am looking at portable, somewhat disposable (if I end up leaving stuff there). I've melted some VDH into an empty shave stick container and like it very much. The Palmolive stick just popped with lather instantly that I think I may be in love.

Does anyone know an online source where I can pick up a stick or two of Arko before I buy the dozen pack on Amazon>

Check with Bullgoose, or Shave A Buck, on the Arko stick. They both carry it.

David, all my favourite shaving soaps are low priced or reasonably priced, with the sole exception of Martin de Candre. And I strongly believe that all those soaps, regardless of being inexpensive, are among the finest in the World.

Valbora is, of course, among your favorite?

Can't beat the price vs. performance ratio, and for those on a budget it's fantastic. :001_smile On a par with Trumper's, performance-wise.

However, I find the scent rather cheap and artificial. Personally, I'd rather spend a little more and get a nicer scent. I'm in this for the luxury, not to save pennies! :001_smile
